    are these pinkys ok ?

hi everybody , to make this short , i had to pick up two frozen pinkys from the pet store because they were out of live, i got them for my king snake who has only had live before , so on the way home it was a hot day and they thawed about half way on the way home , i put them in the fridge , i rad out of time to feed my snake that night , and i didnt have time the next two days, my snake is not starving or anything thats why i put it off, if he was i would have made time , i was more worried about the pinkys going bad , so my question is , after putting two half thawed pinkys in the fridge for about two and half days are they ok to feed to my snake, i would think it would be ok , but just want to make sure , thanks for any help

I personally wouldn't feed rodents that had been in the fridge for nearly three days. With all the digestive innards intact, it isn't the same as having your steak thawed for a couple of days, from a potential bacterial load standpoint.

USDA recommends raw chicken be kept in the fridge no longer than 2 days.

I would imagine that 2 days for your pinkies, which are fed raw, would be too long. I would toss them.

Also, since this is a king snake, not a ball python - you probably should have this moved to the appropriate forum.

I would not feed my snakes anything that has been thawed out for more than a few hours. Whole prey is not the same as gutted or butchered piece of meat. The whole prey has the contents of the digestive system intact, which can digest the animal itself from the inside out. If you notice, hunters regularly gut their meat on the spot when they're going to eat it - same with fisherman... they keep it in a livewell or they gut it on the spot.

Sorry for the graphic post, but I can't stand when someone gives an answer without explaining how they got there.

That's because I left out the parts about gutting and livewells. But your explanation was much more thorough than mine, if it helps!
