This morning I went to tend to my snakes and found that an extremely large male Mojave had pushed the top track holding the sliding glass doors right off the cage causing the glass doors to fall out, facilitating his escape.
The cage was made by Animal Plastics and I have kept this Mojave in it for many years without incident. The track had been glued in place during manufacture. I mixed up some JB Weld epoxy and glued the track back in.
I noticed the Mojave resting contentedly high up on a bookcase. He didn't look like he was going anywhere soon, so I got to work. I cleaned out the cage and replaced the contents. I took a female Spider that is large, but much smaller than the extremely large Mojave and put it in the Animal Plastics cage. Hopefully, she won't figure out how to escape.
I cleaned out the Reptile Basics cage that formerly housed the Spider (with hinges and latches) and put the Mojave in there.
I am relaying this story so that anyone using a PVC cage with sliding glass doors can be aware that a large snake could possibly eventually pop a glued track off and escape.
