I was just wondering what other people use as a factor to determine how long there quarantine times are for there snakes?
I have a male hatching Mojave and he's been in quarantine for a little over 2 months.
He is doing excellent, i guess i am just really excited to put him in with the rest of my group

Where it came from and how it's behaving. I think the minimum should be three months, more if it came from somewhere shady, and even longer if health problems are noticed.

alright that makes sense i got him from S&S exotics, hes doing excellent
i'll just do the 3 month minimum to be safe, unless a problem rises

I think most people just use the standard 3 month mark as an appropriate quarantine period, with some going much longer...up to a year. The most common factor, I believe, is that this gives the snake time to present any health problems that may not be apparent when you first get the snake.

From a reputable breeder? You would probably be fine with no quarantine. From something like Craigslist...3 years would probably be about right...but in the end, do what you feel is safest for the rest of your collection. By the way, what is the rush to get him with the rest of the group? It's not like he's starving for companionship or something.

I stick with the standard 3 months...just 'cause...

I would suggest 3 months if all the tests have come back negative. I have a full set of fecals blood work and IBD and would also have Paramyxoviruses screening done as well. Not doing these tests I would suggest 6+ months perhaps longer.

You do all that for every new snake you get?

For the most part I only recently found that OPMV was testable so none of mine have had that test done but all have had fecals and blood work, most have had IBD testing. The incubation period is potentially quite long. I would advocate having screening done.

It wasn't necessarily that i was rushing but it just seemed like I was doing a long quarantine for no reason,
but by judging by what everyone has been saying i guess I have yet to reach even close to a long period of quarantine time. Lol
Either way I appreciate the help and I am trying to avoid buying from Craigslist I don't see how good will come out of that.

Hell, I am even wary of buying from Kingsnake and FaunaClassifieds even though people refer them to me all the time.

I'd suggest rigid quarantine from any one with an open collection. By this I mean any collection that has been added to inside of 6-12 month. Many breeders buy and sell a lot so quarantine only is as good as the person you bough from. It is a big risk, they may not even know they have a carrier especially mixed collections boas and pythons.

You must be in the Houston area?

I've been to S&S and I've bought from them. My corn could not digest food and had to be put down. The store has deplorable conditions and the animals are not always given the best of care. Because of this, I would quarantine longer than 3 months.
