I shop the snake first not the breeder. when I find one I like, then I try and research the breeder. many small breeders with some very nice snakes.

I agree. Only one of my snakes is from a well known breeder. People put too much stock into names. My little pastel girl is prettier than many top of the line "lemon" or "grazianni" pastels, and she came from a small local breeder.

The only two BP's I ever had were donated to me from a idiot who didn't know anything about snakes. Though if I were to buy a BP I would shop around to see what you like first. They have many people on here that do breeding that have some very nice animals. I personally know Tim Bailey(Bailey & Bailey Reptiles) and I've seen how well he takes care of his animals first hand. I would gladly vouch for him if you see anything that he has which you like.

I also shop for the snake first. I have gotten some nice animals at shows tho, and seen the animal in person and chatted directly with the breeder. I wish 8ball was still around, and i also like Tim at Special K reptiles.

There are so many breeders and eggs being hatched at this point, someone could get the best example anyone has seen out of their first clutch. I shop the snake, not the breeder - like several others have said.

    Re: Good BP Breeders?!!!!?

I do both. If buying online from somewhere like Fauna I look at the snake and then at the breeder's rep on the BOI. I've also joined some local snake/reptile discussion forums and facebook groups so I can find small breeders close by who are producing the snakes that interest me. Many of them don't bother to sell online as they only produce 2-3 clutches a year, but they invested in two or three-gene animals so they're producing some spectacular morphs.

ETA: I will also say that based on statements made by or attitudes shown by some breeders, whether on the BOI, here, FB, etc., they will not get my business. I work hard for my money, and there are enough pleasant people to buy from that I don't need to deal with jerks.

    Re: Good BP Breeders?!!!!?

Like what everyone else has said, I generally shop for the snake. I've got animals from breeders big and small and often times, I've found that smaller breeders take the time to look for QUALITY animals. For example, I'm REALLY picky with fires. Say I look at Big Breeder's website and see that they produce a lot of fire but they are of so-so quality. However, I look on Small Breeder's website, and their fire is to-die-for simply because they took the time to look for quality breeders. I'm not saying this is always the case, but I see it pretty often. As long as a seller has a good rep on BOI or on the forums here and I love their animal, I will buy from them before I even look at big-name breeders.

I look for breeders that produce the morph I want. I then go through their snakes and if I like what I see and they have good feedback on BOI, then they have a future customer.
