Are you referring to a thermostat probe or a thermometer probe? What do you use to heat your cage?

This thread might answer some questions: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...t-Thermometers

Well you have a probe for a thermostat. This is what tells the thermostat the temperature of your heating device so the tstat knows to add our decrease power to supply the correct amount of heat. It is very necessary when using a under tank heater or radiant heat panel but may also be needed for certain setups with heat lamps. A thermostat is the most important piece of equipment you can buy for the hobby.

Good catch Aaron. I assumed they meant tstat. Silly me.

A thermometer probe does the same thing by sending the temperature to the thermometer to let you know the temperature at the probe location. It could be necessary but a IR temp gun can do the same job for multiple cages.
