    Quick Question

OK, I've had my spider girl for 2 weeks. Her previous owner had been pairing here with a pastel (now mine as well) and witnessed several locks but told me that he hasn't seen any evidence that she ovulated or anything. Yesterday I noticed her belly slightly pink and today it was really pink (starting the shed cycle) and that she had some lumping. Should I be expecting eggs? If so, when do you think she'll lay? This will be my first clutch. I'm hoping for a girl bumble bee.

    Hi,

How much does she weigh and have you tried palpating her to see if you can feel any follicles or eggs?

    Re: Quick Question

Frankly, I don't like how her original owner was pairing her. When I bought her, I came to find out that she weighed 785g. After a pinkie bunny (59g) and a large rat (200g) [3 days apart...trying to get her weight up just in case] she now weighs 942g and last ate Friday the 17th. I attempted palpitation and my inexperienced fingers felt nothing, but she clearly wasn't enjoying it & was tensing up and I don't want to apply too much pressure out of inexperience. The lumps aren't too visible now and she doesn't seem too swelled up, so Idk. If she is then I have to keep a good eye on her; if not that's better for her.

I'm by no means a professional but I believe she is pretty small to be gravid. She might have been tensing up while you were palpating due to the fact that you recently fed her quite a good size meal. I wouldn't want someone poking me in the belly after eating an XL pizza!

    qick answer

She is small but I have heard of it happening. But if she is eating she is not gravid. She can not be developing eggs and eating. Maybe once in awhile someone will say eggs after still eating, but I have not seen much proof or it was a slug. carefully feed her up and see about next season. It would put her life at risk for this year. good luck Jean

She is definitely on the small side. How old is she?

If she's still eating I don't think she's ovy as yet, after ovy she will not eat. My girl stopped eating 2 weeks before she ovy.

She's supposed to be 2 years old. And supposedly her original owner power fed her and managed to get a viable clutch out of her last year. Not good practices IMHO. And apparently he power fed all of his "important" stock. I Idk if I can believe such things. Can a yearling female really clutch if power fed?

You should stop pairing her and use the next 6 months to put some weight on her then start pairing her again in November. You did not even quarantine her and I would not believe what the previous owner told you.

I never paired her. And she is quarantined, along with the other 4 snakes that I bought from him.
