How long can he hold it. Quell my fear, please

OK, now I need my fears comforted...

So I have had my new guy, Escobar, a Hypo Colombian for about a month. He has settled in very nicely, eaten every week like a champ (4 rats), and is just a puppy dog when held. But dang nabbit, he just won't poop! I have had balls and JCPs go a couple weeks without pooping, but this guy is really starting to look like a gravid female in the backside. His sausage butt really looks uncomfortable and his skin is pretty tight around his vent and up his body about 3-4 inches. Vent looks fine.

I have given him warm 30-minute soaks for the last three days and still nothing! Feeding day is coming Sunday and I am almost afraid to feed him and fill him up more. The only change was he was being fed mouse hoppers by the breeder and when he came to me, I switched him to lean rat fuzzies. Can anyone attest to this hold out? Driving me absolutely bonkers...

    THANKS!

I wouldn't worry IMO: he'll go when he needs too. If you're worried then hold off on feeding to see if he passes something here soon. I would start to worry if you see any other abnormal body swelling other than a sausage butt.

I think you have a big poop on the way.
They can take a while sometimes. May only get urates a couple times a month and poop once a month.
Let us know when he lets loose.

Re: How long can he hold it. Quell my fear, please

snakes dont have the same digestive system like warm bloodeds that have to poo at least every day. my female mojave ball only poos after shedding (every 2-3 months). i dont think it's that they're intentionally holding it more so then they just dont 'build' up enough poo to go as often.
think of it like this, if we only ate once a week, or every 10 days, or every 2 weeks even, we wouldnt be pooing that often either.

one of mine waits about a month between each poop, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Pics always help though, everything is better with pics

Young snakes especially tend to be really efficient about digesting food, so if he's going a long time expect one big poo and a decent growth spurt. A lot of my snakes tend to go after they eat (which is lovely since then I have to let it sit a day so they can digest in peace), so like everyone else said, as long as he's just got a normal sausage butt, don't worry too much.

He could also be starting a shed cycle, my ball will hold out throughout a shed cycle and then go once shes shed and everything.
