Where to buy BULK aspen shaving (or sanichips) in San Diego?

    What the title says.

I used to get 2.5 cu bag of sanichips for $10.something and they just raised the price to $17.50. I'm trying to find another place with a better deal. So far, I've found 4.something cu aspen shaving from LLL for $24.

    Thanks.

Are there any feed stores/tractor supplies around you? They usually have substrate in very large amounts.
I live in a more rural area, so we have quite a few.

I looked up feed stores in San Diego and found this site: http://www.sandiegohorse.com/tack.html
Do a page search for San Diego, there's 2 stores listed.
You could try calling them and asking if they have what you need before making a trip.

You also might want to bake/boil/freeze substrate before you use it in case there are any bugs in it. They tend to leave giant supplies like that outside and I have had my fair share of bugs in chicken bedding. They're usually harmless, but still gross.

You can get it online for $9.30, and if you buy more than $50 its free shipping! Great deal. I'm currently wating for the sani-chips to get back in stock before I order. I've never tried them, but interested in how they work out.

Pet 360 also sells on ebay with $4.99 shipping. I got my 36lb bag of shredded aspen in the mail in two days for $14.29.

I was thinking about switching from paper towels to aspen. I hadn't heard of sani chips, benefits versus the paper towels?

Spot cleaning. If they aren't particularly messy with their poop at least. It also smells nice.

Its more absorbent and clings to messes. In my experience with paper, one little spill from the water bowl would wick the whole paper wet. With shredded aspen they can have a big pee and move away from the wet.

The snakes will rearrange it at their pleasure, so make sure any hot spots are measured from the bare floor (though I use back heat).

Aspen ingestion is not a serious issue, paper towel ingestion is often fatal. The is less risk with aspen personally I like cococoir most then sani chips. In my area a 2.2 cubic foot of coco is only a few dollars and the same bag of sani chips is 14$ so I often get the coco.
