    Newbee Question on Sheding

Does it take some Ball Pythons longer than others to shed after they go blue?

I noticed on 4-12 that one of the new adult BPs I recently purchased went blue. She has been 'blue' now for 10 days and I'm starting to get worried. I have several juvenile BP's and they have been shedding 3-4 days after they go blue.

Is it normal for adults or individuals to take longer than others to shed after they go blue? Or do I maybe have something else going on here and I need to get her to a vet???

I've kept her enclosuer in the 80's and the humidity has been at least 80%.

I don't think she's pregnant, but I just got her and I don't know if maybe a shed for a pregnant snake is different from a regular shed?? (I know they have a pre-egg laying shed or something like that.

    Thanks for you help
    Andy-

10-14 days is just about right, the days vary, once your humidity is right she will shed fine.

Here's a tip: On the day the eyes clear up, give a warm soak for about 20mins....
Your BP should shed within 24-48 hours.

This Works for my BPs like clockwork...

You do not need to soak your snake while they are in shed! I don't really know where people get this from.

Only soak your snake if he or she has had a bad shed (skin still stuck to the snake, coming off in pieces). All you need to do is keep the humidity around 70%. Misting a few times a day is more than enough. Soaking during a shed cycle can actually lead to a bad shed.

Don't soak your snake before they shed, I've only heard bad things about doing that. It dries out their skin and they have a bad shed. They should only be soaked if, after they shed, it didn't come off entirely. Even then, they shouldn't be soaked, they should simply be slithered through a wet towel, or kept in a container with a wet towel on the bottom until their shed comes off.

Some snakes are different than others, and sometimes one shed will take longer than next. It took my corn 2x as long to shed this time than the time before. Just make sure the humidity is fine and your snake will shed :3

    Re: Newbee Question on Sheding

She finally shed last night - it was a good shed and I'm feeling better about life.
As I said, my other BPs (babies) all shed within 3-4 days after their eyes went blue so a 12-day shed had me concerned.

Thanks to everyone for easing my anxiety!
