    Temperature readings

Ok. Well I just finnished my first new rack. It is a closed melamine rack and houses six 41QT tubs. I using 12" x 12" heat tape for belly heat. I using a loose substrate (cypress right now because I already have it from the cage). I am getting close to ideal temps. Should I measure the bottom of the tub or the substrate for 90-92? My tub bottom reads 96 and the top of a thin layer of cypress reads 92. This is my hottest tub which happens to be my third from the top. (I expected the top one to be the hottest but things seem to end up weird for me lol).

So where should I measure hot spot temps from?

    Re: Temperature readings

I would measure where the hottest place is, where the snake can get access to. If you got it at 90f ontop of the substrate, it would be alot warmer under the substrate and the snake will eventually get there. They like to burrow and will move stuff out of the way. I take all my substrate out, measure where the heat tape makes contact with the tub and meause from inside the tub.

I figured that would be the answer. I just figured I would ask. Right now my BP is heated in a plywood cage from above with a CHE. She doesn't borrow right now but her heat isn't below so I figured the would get to the heat if they want. I just didn't want her be too cool.
