Question on age

My wife just got a boa from on of her friends who could no longer keep it, but they do not know the age how can I tell?
She is a little over 4 ft and she is about 6 inches thick at her biggest point

There's no way to be sure from the limited information you have. 4ft is relative to the locality. For example, if it is a Colombian, it may only be 1 1/2 - 2 yrs old. But if it is one of the mexican localities, it could very well be fully mature and be well over 10 yrs of age.

Pictures might help. If you can post a few, we can try to give you a better estimate.

Ok. This snake appears to be in good condition, it is not thin but is nice and lean and muscular. Judging by the pattern and coloration, it also appears to be a normal Colombian boa.

Based on the pictures alone, the snake's good condition and appearance, and the length you gave in your first post, I would estimate this snake to be about 2 years old, plus or minus a little. It looks to be about the same size as my hypo female which is an early 2011 (roughly 2 yrs old).

Do you have a gram weight? That might help confirm my thoughts....

And when u say just a normal columbian boa do u mean she is not a red tail?
I'm new to the whole boa thing and still have yet to figure out how to tell morph and all that apart.

I wanna agree with Evenstar, I would rough guess 1.5-2 years too.

Colombians are not "true red tails" so when people call their Colombian boa or other BCI localities "red tails" it's not totally correct IMO. The "true red tails" are the BCC boas such as Peruvians, Guyanas, Surinames, etc

Two other common boa confusions: Hog Island Boas are not spelled Hogg with two "g"'s and Colombian boas aren't spelled Columbian with a "u"

Yes - this is what I mean by "Colombian boa". A "normal Colombian" is a normal or wild-type colored and patterned BCI.

And most 2-ish year old Colombian boas are right at about 600-800 grams so yours fits right into that profile.
