I currently have 28 breeding tubs that I am switching over to mainly rats from ASF rats. I also have two of the larger growout bins in another rack. Ive been breeding both rats and ASFs for about two years so I have most of the small issues worked out. I have been growing up around 60 females to separate into 1.3 groups to restart my colony. My main question is what weight for females do you consider to be large enough to introduce a male into the group to start breeding? My ultimate goal is to have as high an average litter size per female as possible. For now I plan on leaving the group together to raise the babes. Im thinking of keeping females for 7-9 months as breeders and then cycling in a new group of females. As of right now Im thinking of introducing a male to the group of three females when they are around 200g. Is this large enough or should I be waiting a little longer?
