SD Tiger Retic

A SD tiger retic is on the way!! (im super excited)...its a male and 50-75% SD - based on my understanding...6-8 feet would be a good guess for its adult length (please correct me if I am wrong)


a quick question...I have half of a T8 open and available for the new guy....this should be large enough for the first few months-1 yr?? (2 ft long x 2 ft wide x 1 ft high)

I am a big fan of Animal Plastics...are there any other similar caging manufacturers to look at? What would be a good size for a final enclosure?

Adults can be managed in a 4x2x1.5 pretty comfortablly. Even just a 4x2x1 but thats bear minimum. If you like AP stick with AP. A 2x2x1 side will suffice him for probably the first 4-5 months. After that it will need to start moving up if you keep it on a pretty stable diet. If you slow grow it though, it can last for quite some time.

Adult males can range anywhere from 7-10 ft, my 6 year old is right around 9 ft right now and slowly adding inches to his overall length. My Girl who is 11 months old with the same blood mixture (50% mainland, 50% Kalatoa) is 6 ft strong and growing feeding on Medium-Large rats once every 4-8 days. I expect her growth to max around 9-10 just because her parents were on the smaller side.

Things to keep in mind - slower they are grown, the smaller they will theoretically get. The size of the parents does matter - bigger parents results in bigger snakes. And also the generation of the cross matters. If this is from Travis Kubes, it will be a younger brother to my girl, and should max around 8 ft being a male.

It is indeed from Travis Kubes....I believe they have just recently been hatched...or are about to be hatched...and thanks for the info/help!

Yeah, I've talked to Travis a lot about this line he's been producing. And while I was at NARBC we were talking about growth potential. One of his yearlings from last year, an albino tiger sister to my girl, is barely larger than my 1 month old Golden Child. Again, he only feeds 1 mouse every week. Never pushes the feeding schedule because he's not growing it out fast.

Good to know....will your boy's pattern brighten up at all? I keep googling pics of sd tiger retics and the pics im seeing look a lot more colorful....

My boy is probable het Anery. There are two forms of the tiger gene displaying. Classic and striped. Classic is not quite as yellow even my girl from Travis is fairly dark on most days though she looks spectacular after a shed!
