    Weight loss on a fast

I know it happans and i got over the frustration in March so its just concern now.

My albino has been off feed since the end of Febuary. (Which I know is a small amount of time)

I got him back in December He weighed 431. Skipped the first week we had him and then did great on F/T mice. We needed to run the mouses head under very hot water for a bit to get him to take it.

    Jan he weighed 561

March 1st he weighed 672. In early March he finished quarantine. I asked a breeder for advice and they said if I placed him with the female chances are he would eat after. I did that for 4 days. He did not eat. I gave him 4 days off then tried another 4 days. They never locked that I saw but it does not concern me because he is young. The next feed he refused again but then he shed but I have not placed him back with the female. We purchased a hair dryer and tried heating the head up after it was thawed no go.

He finally shed his first one with us and it came off fine no issues.

So again a refusal last night and he is down to 608. He acts fine. No sign of RI. He is the only one in the rack not eating. I really thought last night he was going to take it. He was following it and he got close enough where he touched with his tongue did that for a bit and then backed off and went back to his hide. I left it in there overnight hoping but no it was still there.

other options? He only takes mice. I would prefer to use up other options before trying live.

    Weight loss on a fast

Most likely it's just that time of year. All my snakes aren't really eating. The only ones that are eating are the baby babies. And even some of them are skipping meals too. I wouldn't be worried. He only lost 70g that's not too bad. Especially if he had food in him when you weighed him in march.

If he's tracking it but not striking, you probably aren't heating it up enough. Make sure it's fully thawed, then hit the head with the hair dryer for 20-30 seconds before offering.

70g is like the size of a poop. Its pretty negligible. Try not to worry and keep offering food as you normally do. If his weight starts dropping more dramatically, like below 500g, then you might go for a vet visit.

Thanks for the input. His are approx the same temp as everyone else's. I don't remove them from the bag in the water until I am ready to feed. I actually used the hair dryer for longer and then when he refused it I wet the head under very hot water and that was when he was tracking it. I'm going to use the temp gun on the mouse at the next feeding day to check it.
