    Thermometer probe & heat gun

    Hey guys

So I came home today and checked my temps as usual. My thermometer probe over the heat mat under the hide (above the substrate) read 97 degrees! (I was like WHOA TOO HIGH.) and then my heat gun only read 88-90 degrees. Who do I believe?! Why does it do this?

What brands in the thermometer and temp gun?

Your temp gun will read the surface of the substrate. Your probe will read the ambient temps being held in under the hide.

Both devices could be +/- 5*

Digital probes work with micro resistance any damage to the wire or junk (dust) on the probe sensor can throw them off. It is likely the probe is dead and the unit needs to be replaced. I run mine through sliding doors and damage the cable enough to effect the accuracy at least one every 18 months.
