    Lightbulb Solving the humidity issue

So we all know glass tanks are the bane of a snake keeper's existence as far as keeping the humidity levels required for a BP. I used to keep a damp towel on the front half of the screen-lid for my 40-gal, but I got frustrated with Magnus' last (rather rough) shed and decided to employ the old cling-wrap trick. I knew my cats would rip straight through it though, though, as there's no real way to keep them from having free range of my studio. So I decided to lay the cling down, then coat the outside with industrial-grade gaffer tape, giving the exteriour a sturdy, clean-looking matte while keeping the cling-wrap facing into the tank and not the sticky underside of the tape. The end result looks REALLY nice and I'm confident about Magnus' safety, although if anyone sees any issues, I'd definitely appreciate the pointers!

    Pics:

The final product externally. SUPER-clean, I really love the look of it.

The inside of the screen-lid. The layer beyond the screen is a full, whole sheet of clingwrap, with the opacity provided by the tape adhesive. It's durable and clean, and looks really slick with the rest of the setup.

If anyone else spots any safety concerns, please please please let me know!

The first day's humidity results-- only required a quick mist in the morning and evening to keep things looking good! I was misting up to 4 times a day with the damp towel, plus if the cats dislodged it, that was it for the humidity until I got back to it. So far, I'm liking this much better.

I love gaff tape. Best stuff ever!

For my glass tanks, I prefer to use a sheet of acrylic, but I guess this works just as well. Never really liked to foil tops.

Dude, the people who swear by duct tape have clearly never encountered gaff. I have accomplished so many jury-rigs with gaff, it's ridiculous. I'm running low on my roll though, I'll need to order more shortly.

Foil would still be ineffective against my cats. I don't mind not being able to see through the screen, because it's not difficult to open should I really need to check something out. This is working really nicely so far. I'm pleased.

I'd just worry about ventilation. I use peg board as aquarium top. Humidity levels are pretty good after adding sphagnum moss.

I'm not suuuuper worried about ventilation, since the entire back half of the tank is still open, plus 40 gallons is a lot of breaths for a ball python, haha. I couldn't line the back because it would be too close to his ambient heat lamp.
