Im thinking of makeing a couple of the humidifiers that u show on the diy page one for my 2x1x1 viv with my just over 1ft bp in and 1 maybe 2 for the 4x2x2 viv that the just under 3ft bp is in, do u think i would need two in the bigger viv ? what i really want to know is if the pump u need is a air pump or a water pump as it dosent say. oh both the vivs are made out of melamite with glass slideing frount doors and the big one as 4 airvents in the back and the lil one as 2, thanks in advance
    Thanx

Its an air pump like for a fish tank. And 2 should do the job for the bigger vivarium or you could try a larger bottle if you do use 2 bottles there are pumps avaliable that have 2 out puts. I made one and the only thing I didnt like is that it made lots of noise but i got a cheap pump so that could be the problem too. But it worked great for my 20 gallon glass vivarium.
    Thanks,
    Damien

I used a bigger bottle (Gatorade) - you could also run both 1/4" tubes independently (don't couple) as inputs to the bottle and a single 1/2" output tube from the bottle to the cage. If you are going that route use an air pump designated for a larger tank (55gal +). I used airstones in the bottle to better disperse the bubblage and wound up setting the whole shebang on a shelf seperate from the enclosures just so none of the vibrations bothered the animals.

Yes, the bottle shown is just an example. I moved up to a larger one also. The airstone is also pretty important as it really mists up the air. A larger exhaust hose like Smulkin said is also important. Too narrow and you wind up with pockets of water gurgling throughout the length. My pump is designed for a 60 gallon while the bp's enclosure is a 29 tall. This seems to work pretty well for me. Some pumps are indeed louder than others, I bought one that was suppposed to be uber-quiet and emmits just a faint hum. The principal of the humidifier is pretty simple, you can do a little tweaking here and there to customize it to your own needs. I have ditched the silicone and gone with a glue gun, tho......the glue sets in minutes and is easier to work with.

I have used a 1 Gallon Milk bottle and a 1/2 gallon milk bottle and they work great too. Instead of puting one of the holes in the side i just drilled two 1/4" holes in the lid and had 2 hoses coming out the top. The 1 Gallon bottle made a huge difference in the ammount of humid air being fed into the tank. Also be sure not to have to hose that lets the air out in the water, the positive pressure from the air pump will force water into the tube.

    Happy Buiding
    Thanks,

    /agree with goze

That's why i went with the Gatorade bottles - they have that nice wide mouth and cap you can easily get a few tubes into.
