Question's about heatinga rack

Ok I'm currently trying to rehome all my Bp's into my/there new rack which has heat tape running down the back it has 8 shelves enclosed all but the front it's open holds 41 quart bins. With that being said I asked my wife to order me a helix stat instead I got a hydrofarm which max's out at 108 I put the probe on the inside of the bin on the hot side best reading I got was an 85 then I taped the probe to the tape to make sure its works good it is! Left it taped to the heat tape, and put another probe in the bin called an acurite and its been holding at 84 by day and about 77 at night . Am I doing something wrong am I using poor quality?!? I'm wanting to order the Herpstat Intro now but before I do just wondering.....What to do?

You are using back heat so it will take a while to come up to temp.
What is the room temp kept at?

Agreed I thought so to, but its been running for more then 2 days. My house's digital stat in the hallway says 75 but the acurite where the snakes are says 81

can you close off the vent to the snake room?
you probably have your home a/c set to a couple degrees cooler at night.
put your thermometer all the way at the back of your tub, that would be the "hot spot" and go from there.
turn up the stat till you get close to 88ish

btw my room is heated to 81 degrees and my hatchling rack stat is set to 104ish to get to 90 degrees.

Haven't ran the central a/c unit this year only been hitting 70's here in Ga might turn on the little window unit for 2-3 hours at the hottest part of day! I have the probe at the very back taped to floor of tub, and if thats the case I need a better stat this one is turned up as high as it goes 108 and the best reading I can get is 84.2

If I am reading this correctly, you have the thermometer taped to the floor of the tub inside? If there is a snake inside that tub, please use hot glue to secure probes inside tanks...tape can be really bad:

yes that's correct taped to floor inside of tub, no there's no snakes in there as I cant get it to hold proper temp's

It is likely the room temps are too low. Back heat is not very efficient as much is lost to the air it is likely you hit the wall as they say heat wise. Generally racks do best I room temps at or near 80. I played with back heat and found that the room temp needed to be no cooler than 75 to hold temps correctly. I use belly heat I gain a few degrees but you still need to hold correct ambient temps. 75 dead low most say warmer. Heat tapes don't heat air well so the ambient air temp still needs a second source anyway.
