    Little escape artists...beware

I have always invested in the best enclosures, thermostats, and anything my BPs needed. My enclosure of choice has been the Animal Plastics T8. With the divider, I can house two young BPs comfortably. Well, late last week one of the light fixtures went out. I removed it to test whether it was just a bad bulb or the entire fixture. I tried a brand new bulb to no avail. So, I called AP last Friday and ordered a new fixture. They were great...shipped it right out and and should be here tomorrow...GREAT!

Checked my enclosures this morning, my wife checks them during the day as she is a stay at home mom. I got home tonight to see how they were both doing and all was well. It was feeding day today so I go into the kitchen and thaw the rats for meal time. After about 45 minutes, I take the rats upstairs and proceed to feed my beautiful female spider. I open her door and she is nowhere to be found. I take out all her hides, water dish, plants, etc. and she is NOWHERE to be found. OMG! Well, low and behold I found her on top of my dresser next to her enclosure...

So where did this 300+ gram female spider escape from? The sliding glass doors were locked. The pre-drilled hole on top of the T8 that is normally partially filled with the light fixture cord and mostly covered by the light fixture was completely empty since I had removed her light and some how in less than an hour...that fat little girl weaseled her way through this quarter-sized hole...

Lesson learned! Don't underestimate what a ball python can get themselves through!

Any escapes you care to share?

Haha ok I will share mine. When I first got Thor home I immediately realized I forgot to buy screen locks for his quarantine tank, and I live in a studio apartment. Being too lazy to make a second run to the pet store I put my bowling ball and 9lbs laptop on top of the cage, went to bed feeling he was secured got up the next morning to find him slither around his tank desperately trying to find a way back in side! Lol never under estimate their strength either.

I was taking a shower a few weeks ago and when I came out I heard movement on my rack. I looked over and my juvie retic was chilling on top her tub. She was caged when I got in the shower. Needless to say she is in lockdown more so now

Yup. Thought I was so good and that little weasel put me in my place. Good thing she didn't get very far...
