    i need some oppinons

So i took this girl i have been talking to for a while to a reptile show today. it was super small show and there was maybe 10 people selling stuff there. maybe 20 snakes tops. i walked in and was kinda pissed i drove an hour to it.
but it leave us here none the less. she had a fat tailed gecko growing up and always caught snakes outside so she isnt the least bit afraid at all. kinda cool i think. well she saw a cresed gecko and wanted him. i told her to wait because i thought the tail falling off was a bad sign. so i was un sure and didnt want her to buy a bad guy. he was all white and black spots. talking to evenstar she said he is a yellow dalmation. i looked into them a little and see all they eat is cgd and some people have said crikets as well.... i know some say baby food fruit is ok but high in sugar and should only be fed once a week if given to them.
    Here are my questions.
I have a 20l tank i am not using. will that be sutable for an adult gecko?
I saw they do not need lights.....
Can she use repti bark/ eco earth for substrate with these guys?
is alot of handling them bad? she fell in love with the one she saw because it would not get off her shoulder. i would try to hold him and he would run to her other shoulder and wanted nothing to do with me.
here is the one she looked at and i got her to wait and look into them a little more to make sure she gets what she wants and not someones problem like i have done with my bcc.
also how often do you feed?
any other info would be nice. i saw the sticky at the top as well too.

ok here it goes. height is more important than length for a crested gecko. u can use a 20 but a tall tank works better cuz they are climbers. i use an exo terra for my big one and my lil one is still in a kritter keeper. baby food is no longer an accepted form of diet and my geckos dont get any at all. everyone uses a form of crested gecko diet and dusted crickets dubias. i use repashy 3.0 and they love it. its relatively inexpensive and an 8 ounce bag lasted me 7 months.

i use paper towels for substrate but coco fiber also works excellent. i change thier food every 2 days and feed crickets once every 2 weeks. no lighting is necessary but i keep my tanks at 75 degrees. nothing over 80 in my opinion. keep humidity up and remember they are more active at nite. i can handle mine for a while but thats cuz he is used to me. most ppl agree that 30 minutes at a time is about as much as they like to handle without being too stressed.

keep in mind that crested geckos drop thier tails and it doesnt necessarily mean its a bad sign. my gecko was purchased tailless and he turned out to be an awesome pet. good luck i hope this helped

    Re: i need some oppinons

OK here's what I would do:

Take the 20 long and turn it up vertically on it's side. Now the animal has all kinds of climbing room. Depending on what kind of mesh screen you have you can cover what would become the top 2/3 of it with Glad Press n' Seal to trap some humidity. Put a terra cotta clay dish full of wet coco fiber in the bottom. Under what is now the bottom place a 6X8" UTH to warm the clay/coco and generate humidity. I don't think a thermostat would be necessary in this case because the animal can't come anywhere near the heat source. With the plastic wrap it should trap a little heat as well. Fill the cage with plenty of branches, vines, and leafy things. There is a company that makes a great product called "MAGNATURALS" (google it)and they have magnetic platforms that will hold 2 little 1oz. plastic cups to hold water and food. Also others in many sizes for climbing on. They use the little cups you buy at liquor stores or party stores for jello shots. Mist the cage daily and change the food every other day. This would make for a great display cage especially if you turn the cage to view through the bottom or side. Well that's my two cents. Post some pics if you set something up like this.

I have 3 crested geckos in a 25 gallon exo terra tank. 1 adult needs 20 gallons. Don't worry about the tail drop. From the pic I would say the gecko is a male and I have heard that males
tend to be more frisky. That is true for my adult male. Both of my males don't have tails and both of my females do. Eco earth is fine but if she wants to breed them in the future I wouldn't recomend it. I use paper towels for 2 reasons. 1 reason is that I don't want them to accidently get eco earth stuck in their throat and my 2nd reason is that I am breeding 3 of my 4 cresties. You can feed them some fruits once a month but not as their main diet. I feed my geckos crickets once in a while dusted with calcium without d3. For their main diet I use Repashy crested gecko diet. I feed mine every other night. I handle one of my gorls alot and she is fine with it. Some other people might have different opinions though. I think it all depends on the gecko. Some of my geckos don't tolerate handling alot and just go to the bathroom when I take them out, but those geckos are newer. I love my cresties, they are GREAT pets in my opinion. Don't let the temp in his cage get above 80 degrees f. Good luck! I would love to know how he is doing if your friend gets him.
