    Need opinions!

So, tomorrow between 2-4:30 pm, my electric company is shutting off our power to do some kind of work to improve their service. It dawned on me that this means the heat lamp and heating pad that I have set up for my snake will be shut off during this time. It isn't ridiculously cold in my house, but I imagine the temps in her enclosure will drop to around 60ish during this time. Do you guys think this will be a problem, being that it will only be a couple hours?

I don't think so...if you're worried, crank up the heat in the room prior to the power going off so it's a little warmer than usual.

Couple hours shouldn't hurt. When snakes escape they go longer without optimal temps for longer.

Hmmm, when you say 60ish do you mean high 60s? If so, then that would be fine. My house is around 68 and when I take my girl out for floor time she usually stays out for a couple hours or so and is just fine.

If it's low 60s, you might want to throw a couple of warm water bottles in there just in case. If all else fails though, body heat does just fine. (If you're going to be home during that time period that is.)

You could put a blanket around the cage to help keep the heat in. If the power really is only out for that short time I bet the hotspot will stay at a temp that will be fine.

She'll probably be fine, but make sure you have a backup plan for if the power doesn't come back on as scheduled.

My backup plan for such events is about a dozen thermal hand warmers sitting in a drawer. I would simply pop one or two, wrap then in one or two kitchen towels for safety, and put them in my snake's hides. they'll last for hours if needed.

2 and a half hours? Don't worry about it. Its the heat that kills quick, not the cold.

    Re: Need opinions!

    should be fine.

these re-useable hand warmers are awesome for situations like this. You can store them for years, they deliver heat quickly when you trigger them, and after use you just reset them to their original state by putting them in boiling water until the crystals are completely dissolved. Just good to have, can help with power outages, or with transport situations, or with a rescue when you take in one more animal than you can provide heating for and need to bridge a day or two.

but dont worry too much, cold temperatures dont kill quickly, snakes can survive that for quite a while.

    Need opinions!

Get a few hot hands. Put them in a cloth sack and put it in the cage. But keep an eye on the snake, they can cause burns.

Its only for 2 hours. Are you really recommending that the OP put enough heat in there to burn the snake?

Those hand warmers get too hot for snakes. If you need supplemental heat, use the ones designed for shipping reptiles.

Your snake does not need supplemental heat for those few hours. It will be PERFECTLY fine. People ship snakes in 60-65º weather without heat packs all the time, and that is for 12+ hours.
