Well We now havea burmese python

My wife works at a pet store and I am still doing snake removals( my main hobby/love) Well she called me about 740 pm tonight. Someone's daughter had moved out and let behind this beautiful albino Burmese ( they tried to probe her at the store and the one side suggest a female but it hard to say cause she has so much suck shed on her that it taken me an hour alone to remove most of it. ) I currently have her set up in a 41 quart tub in QT on paper towels with water bowl. I am not sure on all the Burmese care outside they like it warmer ( she will have to adjust to a smaller heat source for now cause I refuse to use a hot rock. I am planning on taking pictures tomorrow and a short video to share) the snakes seems in ok shape I am guessing about 5-6 ft long and a little under weight I am guessing she just under a soda can in diameter I am guessing. I am now going to sped the rest of my evening looking up Burmese python care on the web so I can adjust what needed with what we have on hand at this time.

any one with suggestions on anything please ad them here. I am planning on checking in before bed and first thing once I get up.

So you toom in a 6 foor burm... with NO knowldge to there setups? I am all for giving snakes loving homes but you NEED to know the care requirments... I keep my burm at a hot spot of 89 and a cooler side at 79-82. I also keep my snakes room heated to 79 at all times.

If its a female you have a huge responsibility ahead of you. Please realize that all giant owners reflect the overall appearance of the community since only negative reports make the media. And like the HSUS shoves in our faces about dogs and cats - remember that a giant constrictor needs a forever home, not an "until" home.

Do lots and lots of reading to prepare yourself. A soda can thickness at 6 ft would be good for a Burmese. Do not buy Into the obese mindset. A heavy Burmese is not always a healthy Burmese! Keep the basking spot no higher than 92 or lower than 88. Give it a cool side of the tub at 78-82 and you will be good. Need decent humidity so make sure your water basin is large enough Since you are using paper towels. You'll need to move her him out of the 41 QT tub when you can so she does not feel cramped. An adult female may need a cage as large as 8x3x2 smaller females can be kept in a vision 632 if kept trim and not obese.

In the meantime watch out for feeding aggression and be careful when you feed. Burmese can have a wicked feeding response. If you are prepared for this commitment ignore the negative comments you are sure to get. But if you are not. Please reevaluate your abilities to take care of it and find a proper home. Keep in mind these snakes can NOT cross any state lines in the US it is a felony according to the Lacey act. Also check local regulations and state permit requirements. Most states require a permit for Burmese. And many cities are now controlling "constrictor lengths". Know your laws. Set the example for the local keepers in your area!

lol I was never really planning on owning the larger snakes and I figure it was better than the local animal shelter (since they just shoot the snakes since they now on lacey list). cause no one else has them and in the next 20 years There will probably not even be a burmese in the state to acquire one for a pet. since most people don't keep them. Being a house husband ( as we refer to me since I lost my disability and have yet to find a Job will give me plenty of time t0 get every thing done and I got friends I can call on ( like the forms) I can pretty much bet money m y wife will be along the lines of to find it a home asap due to the possible size it will get.


Plus it don't take long to find info when you got internet and up most the night searching

Just for everyones info, (including my husband's!) Some contractors came into the store tonight, and asked me to come out to their truck to ID a snake, which they discovered abandoned in a house they were contracted to repair. They were hoping it was a ball python, but I identified it as a burm. The snake had several stuck sheds, was in a 20 gallon tank with a hot rock, has belly burns, and was on SAND. The contractors did not want to take it back with them. They asked if me and my husband would take it since they knew we kept and bred ball pythons. I felt obligated to rescue this beautiful animal, so I agreed to take it in. So, before anyone reams us out about care, and research, and big snakes and such, PLEASE understand we rescued it. YES, we know about the Lacey act, and YES we know the snake gets HUGE. I figured wed give the snake a chance to recover and eat a little while we try to find it its forever home. Id appreciate a little understanding from my fellow bp.netters instead of getting flamed We are definitely NOT new to snakes and have no intention of keeping it. If you could think of a better option than what I did Im all ears....

It's not like it's going to be 15 feet tomorrow morning. The care of a 6 ft. Burm is no different than a large BP. You will have plenty of time to figure it out. It's really not that big of a deal! Once it is healthy and adjusted, it's going to be you best friend!

Not harsh, true. Heating is the same. Nothing else is. It waz not critiicism so do nor play on my words. I stated the truth and notjing more. Yws thw op may not have intended to ever get a large constrictor and yes he did help a snake find a good home but it is still true. I have seeb plenty of people here get large snakes with no research and get harsher rhan what I said. Was I meaning to be harsh, NO.

Op, you have a long yet fun road ahead od you. Vbe ready for a lot of snake when the little one gets bigger.

Its good you're doing a lot of research, and as stated the snake wint double in length or firth overnight but it is a lot to take on. And please don't take my first as critizing you, that was not mt intention. I just hate when peolle jump head firsr without research. I've seen and heard od countless animals die because of this. As I said good luck, I wouls have posted a lobger more detailed explantion but my phone sucks at typing. Typing this has been a pain, luckily another user gave you sone good info.
