Any reason why you feed in another tank and wave the rat in front of his face like that? It can actually stress them to a point that they won't eat. Not to mention, it can increase your chance of getting bit if you feed in another tank.

    He's a beautiful snake, though.

Thank you he's a good snake. First ball python. To be honest he was my first ball python 7 months ago and just was told to feed him in separate area for feeding. just been so used to feeding him in a separate enclosure. I have him in a animal plastics enclosure now. I plan on getting more bp once my boaphile rack system comes in Still learning the hobby. He never missed a feeding for me in 7 months so i am just used to this system with him . But once i get my rack system and get more bp in a few weeks i will feed them in there enclosures. But thank you hes a great first snake for me

    My Ball Python Feeding Video

Still makes me flinch and it was a video!

The bite thing is true. I use to switch tanks on a BP. I had handled a rat before and got a big female out. My thumb was sticking straight up. She stuck at my thumb and with her mouth still open, stopped!!!! If she would have closed her mouth, she would have had my thumb, but instead she backed up and closed her mouth. She knew in mid strike!
    That was 8 years ago.

So feeding in the same tank is no different than in a different tank for BPs.

It is the smells/tastes/sighting that gets them in the pounce mode!

Re: My Ball Python Feeding Video

Yeah i mean there is always a chance to get bit. I have a process like before i even touch the rat and put it on the feeding tongs i use sanitizer to get the smell of my hands. I mean he has a good strike. But even feeding in his enclosure i can still end up taking a bite. But it works for me and he's never missed a meal. Might end up getting longer feeding tongs. Getting a few more ball pythons in a few to add to my collection so i am bound to get my first bite one day..

I use hand sanitizer like crazy on feeding day i think that helps a lot
