The last week, I have noticed my 2012 female spider (265 g) pressing her belly against her water bowl. Actually, she is burrowing UNDER her water dish (1/2 of Cypress) and when I move it, she has her belly inverted pressing against the under side of her water bowl. Temps are spot on, humidity around 60%. She shed about a month ago. I know breeding females often wrap their water bowls when developing follicles, but she's only 265g and hasn't even seen a male. Is she going through puberty?!? (lol) Her last shed was about a month ago, but she has shed fine without pressing against her water bowl. She eats like a horse and ate every time she is offered every week...even through winter. I inspected her belly and there is no sign of injury or burn (yes, her flexwatt is thermostat regulated).

Just kind of a strange sight...Has anyone else see this behavior?

My conclusion, these snakes do some quirky things lol. My normal bp is at 1320g, so I ordered her a large size hide from reptile basics because she's outgrown her medium one. Well she was freaked out by the large one, she stopped eating and you could tell she was stressed, always wandering around her cage. So she prefers to wear her medium sized hide box like a hat haha but she's content with it, and she's back to her old garbage disposal eating ways. So yeah snakes do some pretty weird things.

I got a new girl last week and found her doing the exact same thing. I concluded that either her hides were too big or she hadn't found them yet. So today I put a big handful of sphagnum moss and some cypress bedding piled up in her hides. Hopefully she'll feel safer now.

I've found mine curled up under her water bowl (right after I refill it so now all the water's dumped out onto her substrate) quite a few times. It was a shock the first time it happened - I thought she'd escaped! She wasn't under her hot side so I checked the cool. Wasn't there, so I almost started to panic until I spotted a bit of her scales and her water bowl at a strange angle. Lifted it up and there she was! I've never seen her wrap her bowl, just hide under it. I have spotted our big boys doing it, though, for no real discernible reason.

I've had her since last year and like I said, she sheds fine, eats very well, active, no health issues. Being a Spider the only hint of a wobble I have with her is during feeding..she gets VERY excited but always hits her rat first time...every time! Most of the time I just pass something "new" off as a snake just being a snake as each one of mine surprises me on a regular basis. This was just a real shocker when I lifted her bowl and saw her belly up...pressed against the bottom of the water bowl. She appears fine in every other way. SO I guess this is just her way of keeping me on her toes.
