    First feeding!

So a little back story...I got him on Thursday morning and it's Saturday night.
I know I'm supposed to wait a week to try & feed him after he's acclimated, but I was watching him and he was exploring the tank smelling around...looked like he was looking for food.

I put him in a separate feeding box for the first time & gave him a f/t adult mouse (he weighed in at 155g).
He struck and tried to swallow, but he went rear leg first so that didn't work out. Tried to get him to strike again, but he wasn't having it.

I put him back in the tank and this was him:

Still hungry, but I didn't want to take him out of the tank again.

So even though I don't want him eating inside the tank, I warmed up the mouse some more and put it in the tank.
I turned off all the lights (except for the red heat lamp) and got out of sight.

After using it for a pillow for a little bit, he eventually dragged it away and swallowed it hehe.

I thought he was going to the UTH, but he turned around, climbed over the water bowl (fell in lol) and went back to where I put the mouse.
The mouse was 19g, so that should be plenty for him...what a pig! I think he still wants more, but I'm not going to push it, 19g for a 155g snake is good enough for one week!

Most people here feed in the snakes enclosure. Its less stressful on the snake. Does not allow you the chance of getting struck by a snake in feeding mode. Is much easier when you get a larger collection.

Feeding in the cage will not make it aggressive. Just don't put a soaking wet mouse on the aspen bedding. Rub it dry with paper towels in the event its wet and you will be good.

The reason I didn't want to feed inside the tank was because I didn't want to condition him that warm meat dropping into the tank is food...since my hand is also warm meat hehe.

When I want to handle him, I don't want him thinking it's dinnertime.

I wouldn't worry about it, unless your hand smells like a rat then you should be fine.
