Water System

Hello, does anybody have a recommendation for a water system? I have two racks (both with 5 tubs) and I'm about to build two more. I think it is time for me to invest in a water system. The only thing I am concerned about is drowning my rats. I've read some stories about drowned rats due to a faulty part. This is something I definitely want to avoid.

I have had leaks but none of my rats or babies have drowned. I check the tubs often and can usually spot a leak early. Another issue is that sometimes lines clog and the water does not flow. Check your valves often and flush out your lines once per month. You can add a tiny bit of bleach to the water when you flush them. Tiny=capful in a gallon of water. Rinse well.

I got my system from Reptile Basics also. The tubing I got from the local pet shop, as it was cheaper (airline tubing for aquariums), and the bucket I already had. Make sure you get the clips to hold it onto the wire, and you shouldn't have any problems. Two days after I installed it, one of the males in a holder bin pulled the line through and chewed it because I hadn't clipped in on firmly enough. The poor things were half submerged for about 5 hours until I got home from work, but they were fine. If it had been a tub with babies in it though, I would have had deaths. And since I just had a bucket, and it wasn't attached to a water line, the water ran out before completely drowning them.

I've only had it about a week, and it's already worth the investment, just because I don't have to fill water bottles anymore. I was refilling every other day, sometimes every day for the tubs with more ratties in them. The bucket so far has been only filled twice, and one of the times was after the flood!

(7) 3/16 Loop Clamp with Screw
(1) 3/16 Tank Connector With Strainer
(5) Vari-Flow 3/16 drinking valves

All my racks have watering system, like with everything proper maintenance and checking your valves is key to prevent drowning. I have been using watering systems for 6 years now and could not imagine using anything else.

I use reptile Basics, http://www.reptilebasics.com/rodent-watering/. I have been using the water system for 5 months now and love it. I had a problem with leaks at first but Rich helped me solve the problems. I have over 100 tubs now and it's great.
