    Digging!

hey guys, so I just changed my 3 year old BP's substrate to the eco-earth coconut fiber today and found out that Charles is a total digger! He looks like hes having the time of his life digging around and pushing this stuff around anyone else experience the same thing?!

also ive noticed little pieces getting stuck to his face because he is digging in it. Im assuming since it is 100% digestible and they are only little pieces that he is fine? would love some other opinions

I use eco earth and mine never digs. And yep he'll be fine. Allure has struck his mouse from the side instead of the head before and got eco earth stuck to it while he tried to figure out how to eat it. A little bit won't hurt them. I have random bits of moss in there to help hold the moisture and there have been a few times I've had to take the feeding tongs and pull one from the corner of his mouth because he got it when he was trying to eat his mouse. I think they'd have to eat quite a bit and have it cause a blockage to be an issue. I figure if they can break down mouse/rat bones and teeth a bit of coconut fiber and moss won't kill them.

interesting! yeah charles just went to town for about 45 minutes. he dug out every corner and then would go under and pop out on the other side of the tank, pretty funny stuff. yeah thats a good point about the bones and teeth.

I was using aspen and switched back to paper towels recently because pandora was always playing with her food getting the aspen shavings stuck to it n then I would have to watch her and pull them off as I can.. I might have to try the coconut fiber tho

Yeah, I woke up this morning to find Azazel curled up underneath his bedding! It was adorable, his little head was poking out and everything! (Though now that side of the cage is sort of a mess.)
