    Accurite Thermometer....

I purchased an Accurite thermometer for my tank. I placed it inside with the probe on he hot side near the thermostat probe and the larger thermometer part on the cool side. I was able to monitor my temps and humidity until I misted (lightly) the tank and the thermometer went blank. I replaced battery but still not working. So, did I not do this right? Was I not supposed to put the thermometer inside the tank? Can they not tolerate some moisture? What would be a better way to set this up? I want to keep him in a tank though....

Sounds like you got a bad one. Return it to the store if you can. I've had one for almost 6 months now. I've used it in either side of 2 different tanks and misted in numerous times. It still works just fine for me. Same batteries and all.

Its safer to place your tstat probe between the uth and the bottom of the cage so it can not be moved by the snake.

I never mist my gauges directly. That is just asking for false readings and failures.

I would not mist with a tool with a battery inside the tank. In fact I don't like seeing a battery inside a enclosure at all. They have a very poor accuracy (listed at +/- 4ºF an 8º window ) and are exceptionally clunky shape. Personally there are far cheaper units that have greater accuracy.

    Re: Accurite Thermometer....

I don't like Accurites. I've had a few and at least half of them were 10 degrees off. The other half were consistent with one another.

50% success rate isn't looking good....

I must have a good one then... The probe is always within 2deg of my laser and the ambient is identical to the analog gauges in the tank

Still interested in what u guys use instead? It is in the bulky side for my small enclosure
