I've been doing some research on Red Tail Boas and think there amazing!! I just had some random questions about them haha. What type of Boa do you have? (BCI, BCC, morph?) Male, Female? Size? Pic? If I get one it will be in August so I have some wiggle room for doing research. I was thinking about getting an Animal Plastics T-10 since its a bit taller than the T-8 (sound ok?) When I go to the next expo I'm going to look at the male sunglow prices because those are my favorite and males tend to be on the smaller side compared to the females. Thanks in advance everybody!!!

i have my bcc in a t10 right now. I would recomend going with a bci. i thought i could hop to a bcc from my dums and he is super super touchy. from what i have heard and read. bci are less sensitive than bcc. also look into a dums. they are awsome as well. the t10 should be fine for a male. i do not plan on keeping mine in the t10 its whole life. i will be ordering some 8 foot tanks when i get a house later this year.

Yeah I've also read they were BCCs' were more advance. I was planning on BCI anyway lol Thanks for the feedback btw!

A male BCI is the way to go (and Dumerils are terrific too - very underrated!). A T10 will be perfect for a male BCI for the rest of its life, so that is a good choice. I think the T8 is a little too short for a fully grown boa. But if you start with a baby, you'll want to start him out in something smaller for at least a little while. A 32 qt tub is good for a baby, you can move up to a 41 qt at about 1 yr of age. At 1 1/2 - 2 yrs old, he'll be ok in the T10.

I have both BCI and BCO (Argentine). My BCI are wonderful snakes!! They are all very docile and make great pets. My Peaches loves to just hang out with me and will sit on my lap or on my shoulders for hours at a time. Jasper is more active and has to explore everywhere. Pandora is a little more shy, but extremely sweet. My Argentines are different. They are great with me, but more skittish with strangers. And they can have attitude and will huff and puff and want to blow the house down, but they've never actually struck at me. My female, Roslyn, does a marvelous impersonation of a king cobra though......

LoL, yes he does. He and Peaches are both het anery so they have silver eyes. Very pretty in person!

I am hoping the two of them will make ghosts one day - that is a silver and lavender boa....

I'm only allowed to get one snake (maybe 2 if I can convince my parents ) so I wanted something with a nice size and a little more on the active side. I was looking into Ball Pythons but RTBs' took the cake

Yea, if you can only get one, I'd go with a boa too. And a male is perfect - they are a little more managable than the females, but you'll still have a nicely sized and impressive snake.

Pandora is a coral sunglow arabesque. She is pretty unusual and we are hoping to prove her super hypo and super arabesque. Since she is nearly patternless, and both parents were arabesque, this may be an opportunity to prove the arabesque gene as co-dominant. We'll see!

My males are nearly at their adult size now. Mojo is pushing 6ft. Peaches, a female, is nearly there too, but she's still got some growing to do before she would be considered up to breeding size. Pandora and Suki are still babies. Pandora was born in the fall and is only about 180 grams!! I love working with the larger boas. They are a lot of fun and very curious snakes. Be aware though that putting them BACK in their enclosure can be a real challenge!! They do NOT like to go back in - it's a boa thing. But the AP cages are good because they open at the front - it's easier to stick them in through the front then down from the top.

One tip: I would recommend that you get your boa as a youngster. Not a newborn, but still a baby - one that's several months old and eating well (ask the breeder - make sure it's eaten at least a dozen times). If you get a baby, you can grow with him. And it's very satisfying to raise a baby up to an adult.

i have to agree with you on this one. my dums i got when she was 130ish g and was a pain to get eatting. now she eats what ever is in the tank and growing quickly now at close to 340g. altho she and my bcc never gave me a hard time to put in the tank. they go in freely right now. she is starting to get more curious and explore her tank alot more at night as soon as the lights go out. my bcc is still new to me and he just hides most the time. But boas are very fun snakes.

Boas are amazing!

I got my BCI a few months ago and he is so different from my balls! He loves to come out and he loves to climb. Currently he's in a boaphile, but he'll be upgraded to a massive 6'x4'x3' cage with lots of climbing space.
