What'sss up?
Hey they, I'm new to this site. (Well, I've been lurking for a little while, and finally decided to make an account, really, but that's not the point!) I was searching around for information on some breeders I've been looking up (You can never be too careful, am I right?) and stumbled across this place. It seemed like a great place for information, and just getting to know the herp community in general! So, I looked around for a little bit, before finally deciding to join this place.
And, just to put this out there: I don't have a ball python (or any type of reptile at the moment) yet. But, I am thinking about a nice honeybee from RoyalConstricorDesigns... That is... If my dad decides that I can get the expensive little bugger. -.- He wants me to get one from Petco. I mean, our Petco isn't terrible, and they actually have some people who know what they're doing... But...
Um, their ball python was a bit... Thin-looking for a two-month old. (That's how old he/she is.) And as for their other snakes... Well... Humidity is obviously not their strong point. I saw this poor CA kingsnake who was having a terrible shed. Poor guy, it was coming off in tiny little pieces, and he looked really uncomfortable.
Anyways, I told him this, and you know what he said to me? "Hey, you know, they have warranties on.... *chuckled* warranties, makes it sound like a car! I meant guaranties. So, if the snake does end up dying in a week, or a month, you can get your money back and spend it somewhere else!"
No. No. No. No. That's not the point! I don't want to buy a possible sick snake from Petco! I don't care if I get my money back if it dies! I want a snake that will live! You don't go and buy a sickly dog, and just "get your money back and spend it elsewhere" if it dies!
At least my mom is on my side about this. She's a bit concerned about the wobbles that spiders and spider-morphs get, but I told her that I'd ask about that. And I did, and Garrick replied in a very helpful manner. Yes, the honeybee has a tiny wobble, but it is not a problem with eating and getting around. So, the honeybee is good! Just... expensive to us. Four hundred is a lot in this family. I also told her that I'd be fine with this one beautiful spider they have, for a lot less. (Well, not just fine, but you get the picture. I'd be happy with any healthy snake!)
Anyways, I'm not completely clueless on reptiles/snakes. In fact, my dad had a RTB, and a bunch of garter snakes when he was younger. And we had an iguana a few years ago, but we had to give him up. Money troubles really do stink.
So, uh, hi.

Welcome to the site! Maybe you guys can hit up a local Reptile Show in the near future - they are GREAT for introducing yourselves to the world of BPs, and get a lot of info, too! Plus all the snakes are soooo cool to see Keeping my fingers crossed that you get one of Garrick's snakes - he is great, and ya know, they back their snakes even better than Petco, IMO You can always call and get all the help you need. GOOD, knowledgeable info! Food for thought!
