    Is my python stuck?

I am new to snakes and I got a hatchling ball python a few days ago. I also bought a fake log hide for him. The log has this little branch that sticks off it and I thought it would be good for him to climb on, but I didn't realize the branch part is also hollow. At first I thought he had escaped, but after searching through everything I found him crammed up in there. Neither his head or tail is in reach of the hole. Is he stuck in there or can pythons squeeze out of pretty much anything they get themselves into? He's been in there for about 30 hours (unless he sneaked out and back in). I've poked him a few times and he moved, so he must be able to breath, I'm just worried he can't get back out. I'm afraid I'll injure him if I break open the hide, so I really don't want to do that unless I'm sure he's stuck. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Kerry

If it is a cork log it will break apart pretty easy.

Can you post a pic? Is it in the main hole or the small branch part?

Is it that tree thing from petsmart?

I think I have heard of other people's snakes cramming themselves up into it and getting out just fine. If your snake is still small, it will probably be able to get out just fine. Once he is out, get a different hide

Yes, it is the Petsmart tree thing. It is not made of cork, but some kind of plaster-like material. He's not stuck in the main hole, but is up in the tiny branch. Once he's out, I will definitely replace the hide with something safer.

I Hope he is not stuck. If he is the vet should be able to cut the tree with the same saw they use on a cast without harming the snake. I think that would work but you better call before heading up there.

If hes stuck, try lubing him up with olive oil or something similar.

I would wait a bit longer to see if the snake is stuck. If he does come out, I would stuff the hide with plastic bags. That's what I've done to some ornaments I've used in the past. Just stuff it so tight that nothing else can get in!

    Re: Is my python stuck?

haha this is kinda funny. My first bp did the same thing when i first got that log thing and i thought she was gone. she came out just fine. I just layed it on its side so that the top branch part is on the ground. she came out within the next few hours. then i took it out for good.

    hope this works for you

Thanks everyone. He wasn't stuck! Alex, turning the thing on its side worked like a charm. He slithers back up in there every time I come near to try to take out the hide, but at least I know he's not stuck
