Bought an Indonesian Garter snake yesterday, not absolutely certain on it's age... just know it's not a hatchling lol. It's maybe 15 inches long, it's a male also btw... so I'm assuming its most like an adult of perhaps a year or two of age. Not sure.
It's a very gentle snake, which was to my suprise from not knowing a whole lot about the breed. From what little info I did gather, I found that it's uncommon for them to be aggressive lol. I did know that they were venomous and rear-fanged, so I wasn't completely unfamiliar with the breed. I bought him because of his beauty and great personality... and in hopes he can someday breed with one of my hybridized colubrid females. Knowing of the IGS's venom, I am now not so sure it can be done.. advice/insight on this would be welcome. Has it ever been done? lol.
Also, I couldn't find a whole lot of info on how to house one in captivity. I know they NEED humidity and can live happily in a 20gal tank. As far as diet goes, I figured guppies and pinkies, perhaps not all that different from that of a standard Garter, but I'm unsure.
Advice/insight is much appreciated!
