    Talking My new addition

Bought an Indonesian Garter snake yesterday, not absolutely certain on it's age... just know it's not a hatchling lol. It's maybe 15 inches long, it's a male also btw... so I'm assuming its most like an adult of perhaps a year or two of age. Not sure.
It's a very gentle snake, which was to my suprise from not knowing a whole lot about the breed. From what little info I did gather, I found that it's uncommon for them to be aggressive lol. I did know that they were venomous and rear-fanged, so I wasn't completely unfamiliar with the breed. I bought him because of his beauty and great personality... and in hopes he can someday breed with one of my hybridized colubrid females. Knowing of the IGS's venom, I am now not so sure it can be done.. advice/insight on this would be welcome. Has it ever been done? lol.
Also, I couldn't find a whole lot of info on how to house one in captivity. I know they NEED humidity and can live happily in a 20gal tank. As far as diet goes, I figured guppies and pinkies, perhaps not all that different from that of a standard Garter, but I'm unsure.
    Advice/insight is much appreciated!

    My new addition

So you're asking if you can try and breed the indonesian garter to one of your hybridized colubrid females...? What hybrid colubrid females do you have? Im not really a fan of hybrids so i personally wouldn't recommend that you try it.

This is Ball-pythons.net. I'm sure people are willing to help you, but there aren't many on here who have experience with venomous garters (for example, I would be straight-up guessing on any advice I offered). Someone who does have that experience probably hasn't come across your thread yet.

You're probably right... I found that there isn't a lot of info on them period.. no reason to give up on the quest for knowledge though
I will start posting what I know and what I learn about the species for others who may own or think about owning a Keelback too.
I'm sure I'm not the only one with questions... and I'm sure I can start giving out some basic answers as well.

    Hybrids

As of right now I have 3 hybrids. 2 females and a male. Their father and grandfather is the same for all three. He was a Pine/Gopher mix.

My one male and one of my females are actually twins from the same clutch. They are a year and a quarter years old.
They are a mix of Louisiana Pine, Western Gopher, and Texas Rat. The mother was a Texas Rat. The male is 26 inches long and 2 1/2 inches around at his widest point. He is a dusty dark and light grey and white with black and brown patterns, I call him Bread lol. The female twin has the same heritage, obviously lol. She is bigger than he is and is a brilliant golden color with a similar pattern to the male, but much bolder and more brilliant. She is 34 inches long and nearly 3 1/4 inches around at her widest point. She's named Butter.

The younger female hybrid has more added into her bloodline.
The half-sister to the twins is named Peanut. Mostly because she's a comedian and she's rather cute.
She is a very diverse mix of colubrids. Her dad was the offspring to the Pine/Gopher and Texas Rat mix. A triple was paired with a double hybrid female. The female, her mom, was a Bubblegum Rat and Everglades Rat mix albino. Peanut is a Louisiana pine/Western Gopher/Texas Rat/Bubblegum Rat/Everglades Rat mix het for albino. She's maybe 7 months old, 18 inches, and an inch around at her widest point. She's mostly grey and dusty tan with a dark mahogany/deep brown and black pattern.

I have a regular male Mexican Black King that I'd like to eventually breed into the gene pool.... but I'm aware of the risk. His kind has a famous reputation for cannibalism.
Which is why I got a male Keelback who's around breeding age.. I think lol.

Yeah, it is. I run the risk of having snakes that could be infertile, like a mule. I'm not sure snakes can become infertile due to mixing their gene pool.... but since it can happen to mammals, I suppose it could happen to a reptile. Even though they are waayyyy different. lol.

No one can ever really know til it happens or doesn't happen... I'm just proud to own very healthy, very unique snakes.... if they can't breed, they are still amazing to own

If I'm lucky and they can in fact breed, I would be tempted to see how far and where this gene pool will go. I know that the triples can, they're brothers and sisters have made a succsessful clutch, one of which resulted in Peanut being born.
