PLease READ and learn from our mistake!!

I am not posting this so we can get told what complete idiots we are. I am only posting this so someone might not make the same mistake we did. Please refrain from all negative comments. Nothing can be posted that will make us feel any worse....

We are in the military and just moved 1500 miles in the middle of winter with our entire collection. This is NOT the first time we have done this. All of our other moves have been completely event free and everybody has always arrived at our destination perfectly fine. Our SOP is all juvenials and anyone roughly under 1400g get put in a hatchling rack and anyone bigger gets doubled up in 32qt bins. Everyone rides in the SUV with us and is covered. Everyone also gets unloaded at every hotel everynight. The problems started this move by the moving company needing to take all of our stuff a few days early and it only being 30 something degrees out. A second notable is I am currently 6 months pregnant with our first chlid and not exactly having a good time with it. And too make things worse our dachshund at a whooping 8 lbs full grown has been mourning our American Bulldog who just passed away in her sleep the week before and has lost 1.5lbs....so to say we were a little stressed is probably an understatement but still no excuse...
So short story is I got worried about the hatchling rack with 15 of our snakes in it being too cold on our last night and plugged them in. Yes I have 2 different thermos still out incase we need them at hotels but I did not use it. Every 10 min me and my hubby checked on them and they were ALL still in the back where the heat is. Guess what ??? We fell asleep....I can blame it on anything and everything but it all comes down to BEING STUPID AND LAZY. We lost our gravid blk pastel, our gravid pied, our breeder blk bee, our breeder pied, and our breeder blkback albino. Also to top things off our vet had miss sexed our superpastel and she hooked up with our female pastel!!

PLEASE DO NOT MAKE OUR MISTAKE!! I hope someone will remember this post.

Good news - all moved! All snakes reset up and all but 2 off our gravid females have eaten again. They were off food before we moved so not worried. And Guinness our dog is eating again!

I'm so sorry to hear this I know what you mean about plugging them in, because you certainly didn't want them to die from being too cold either! Thanks for sharing - we are military too, so this is a good thing for us to keep in mind when we finally have to move ours. Will definitely make sure I keep a thermostat for them. Sorry for your loss

That's a bummer. Sorry for your loss. I couldn't imagine a move like that with snakes, that would be tough.
