Anyone have any info on Australia or Hawaii's pet laws?
Looking at several grad programs in Aussie-land and Hawaii and issues on moving with pets is going to factor into my decision...

I don't think snakes are allowed in hawaii but I'm not sure if that applies to all snakes or some of them. I saw a news story on someone caught with a 6ft boa that was confiscated.

Australia has laws that prevent you from having non native snakes. No balls, no boas and no hoggies. But if you like carpets, black heads and womas then you're good.

I don't have an answer but a suggestion. It might be prudent to contact the natural resources government department in the exact region you are looking at and ask them. They will have a specific answer and also it places that answer in writing if there is an issue later.

Aus. Is very hard to bring animals in. I doubt you be able to bring any reptile. Dogs have to be in QT for a couple/few months.

Re: Not sure were this should go.....Australia??/Hawaii??
You will not be able to bring them to Hawaii, I am not sure about the rules regarding each island, but I know Oahu and some of the smaller ones.. You may be able to get a permit to own them but HI is pretty strict about bringing in exotic species. I am pretty sure it would not be worth it. Where are you looking at grad school?

We had an opportunity to move to the big island. They said no snakes, so we said no thanks.

Hawaii doesn't allow snakes at all. All other reptiles are either banned or severely, strictly regulated. Maybe you can get a Jackson's chameleon... ?
Australia doesn't allow imports- doesn't matter if it is an Aussie python or not. You'd be starting over with your collection there, and variety is limited to Aussie pythons. On the bright side, you'll get to keep Aussie pythons for cheaper and get some varieties we'd be dying to have. Of course, if you then decide to leave the Land of Oz... you'll be restarting- again.
May I suggest online classes?
