    Anyone power kite?

Just thought id see if anyone else likes to power kite. I have a peter lynn twister IIr 3.5m that I love. I'm tempted to get a flexfoil blade 4.9m next though

YUP! The blades are great but do be very careful they (used to anyway I haven't played with one in a while now) have TONS of pop and no float. A really good friend was lofted 15 feet and it dropped him while he was kite skating... shattered knee. I have not mucked about with the PL at all not since the peal.

I usually fly cooper race kites and ozone DP. I love the Ozone access kites for what I usually do nice even power and easy to control in the wacky winds I usually have. today is a great example it is blowing 16mph with gusts of 26 mph. Blades in my neck of the woods are crazy dangerous.

What kind of kiting are you doing? Jumping?

    Re: Anyone power kite?

Well I've only been flying for about 6 months now, bought the twister to learn with and its been a great kite.
For now i've just been jumping around with it, still working on redirecting properly. Biggest jump ive gotten was maybe 6ft up and landed maybe 30 feet away...I'm getting ready to buy a landboard and debating on the flexfoil seen so many nasty falls really just want something that will allow for some nice floating

If I may I would suggest staying with the twister to learn the land board with. A 3.5 is a good size and once you have that dialled in then look at bigger floaty kites. The ozone frenzy is a great kite (sorry it is a bank breaker however) but a 5 or 7 is a great all rounder with pop and float. I am biased I love ozone. The kite makers who also make paragliders just make better kites period. Flexi makes some great kites too don't get me wrong I own a blurr and love it but not really what you are looking for. Have you looked at something like a flysufer or HQ neo?

    Re: Anyone power kite?

No I haven't looked at either of those, the issue I have is in Houston its either 16-20mph with 30mph gusts or a steady 5mph...was looking at something for the 5mph days that would be fun to mess around with...I'll start looking into the ozones...any advice on how to reduce the pinch from dual handles? Was thinking about switching over to a bar

Sorry I am not trying to talk you out of a blade but NEVER forget the 4.9 is called 'The Widowmaker' it has teeth and is not afraid to bite. They have a rep for power lots of power. They also have that ability to instantly convert a little gust into lift and instant power and the sad part of that it goes as fast as it comes. I owned one and after a very painful lesson and watching a friend's lesson I sold mine and have never looked back. If you want float and pop a water kite might be better I hate inflatables so I posted a couple of self inflating ones I have used flysufers never a neo but they seem good.

I am aging, 44 this year, and have had some bad hurts. (broken neck, broken heel ...) and have a solid and great respect for the power of wind. I have kited for a long time, 2003 or so. I have watched far too many younger inexperienced kite people arrive at my beach and set up a stupid big kite in dumb conditions and end up with a kite in shreads and battered and bleeding, add yet another story of how dangerous kiting is. It can be but with a measure of sense and care it is as safe as any other sport.

Caution is needed blades are powerhouses and easily twice the juice in the same size as the twister. I would venture to guess that the twister 3.5 and the blade 4.9 is easily 3x the power. It is a heck more than what you have. Just be cautious. Sorry man just old guy jitters.
