Are there any signs???

OK, as a lot of you know by now, the people I bought my BP from lied through their teeth to make a sale. They lied about the age, they lied about the gender, they lied about taking good care of her. A part of me wonders whether or not they lied about whether she was captive bred (they say she was by their breeder in florida) or she was wild caught. My question is, would there be any real signs that she was wild caught? I mean, I know that ticks/mites would be a good sign but she does not have any & she never has to my knowledge. I know that wild caught take a long time to "tame" if they every tame at all. Hissy has not hissed at me in quite some time, save for a time when she was sleeping on my neck & I scared the bejeebles out of her. Is there any way to know?? :?:

No, not for sure. Have you had her checked by a vet for parasites? Internal parasites are a pretty reliable indicator that they were WC.

I agree with Randy if you did get an import and its healthy count your lucky stars. But there is no sure way to tell if its an import or CB or farm hatched other then the reasons you described i.e. ticks and mites. But ticks can come from anywhere especialy if you take your snake outside and let it crawl around on the ground.

Unfortunately, even captive bred can get parasites as apparently some rodent breeders have them in their colonies. I’ve seen some indication this might not be that uncommon. Find a good reptile vet and take a fresh sample of the dark fecal mater.

Scars are a good sign of a wild caught adult but of course they can get scared in captivity. Temperament is also an indicator but I've seen ill tempered captive bred from time to time. It's rare but some recent wild caughts even eat right off the bat (younger probably helps). Of course captive hatched (wild bred) babies are even closer to captive bred than wild caught (animals that actually lived in the wild at one point).

I guess the important thing is that you take good care of it now as you may never know the history. Hopefully you can find trustworthy sellers.

Yeah, I had her checked out for internal parasites as well & she was clean. I just wondered if there was a way to tell. She is actually settling down quite nicely. Like i said, she hasn't hissed in quite some time. I was just curious, it really isn't too pressing an issue for me.
