Not using any substrate?
I keep my balls on paper towels in racks. When they pee it normally soaks the towel or they end up getting under the towel Would it be Ok to just use no substrate and let the snake rest on the plastic.

Re: Not using any substrate?
Hi,
To be slightly graphic I think there is way to much liquid expelled from the back end of the snake to make that a good idea.
The more/ more absorbant the substrate is the more contained that is likely to be - which prevents the snake sitting in its own urine.
I use 2 layers of newspaper for adults and paper towel for youngsters.

No way. Not a good idea, imo. They will be all over in their mess. Mine get two layers of paper towels, with the exception being my bee. She gets three. When she pees, she really pees. You don't want them sitting in their poo and pee do you?

Lol I would never do this I was curious what others would say. I think I should use more than 1 layer of paper towels though.

I have been using one layer but I'm going to move to two now that they are getting bigger. I just cleaned all the tubs last night and my daughter walked by the rack and said somebody went because it smells. The poor pied was trying to hang out on top of the hides because the paper towels were soaked.

One of my (ex) roommates worked for a student newspaper. I bet you can guess what my snake's substrate is
There are always such an excess of the things around, I use an entire paper at once. Makes cleanup super easy.

Re: Not using any substrate?
Hi,
No they generally all have some liquid content.
If you use a particulate, absorbent, substrate you might have trouble seeing it though?
It was a lot easier to see and clean up once I moved to newspaper.
