Hurricane Sandy BP Survival Story
First of all, I'd like to thank the small group of you who volunteered to foster my 5 BPs, back in November. Most of you were quite genuine, and were very willing to help. I wound up keeping them very well at a local store.
Here is the survival part
The snakes were hastily removed from my rapidly flooding snake room. Right after the storm, temps in my house, without power dropped to below 60 at night. Snakes spent 4 nights that way at 60 or lower. They were cold to the touch, and I was freakin!.
Then they were transported 35 miles away. All 5 of them (1550g F, 800g M, 2 600G F, and another 600G M) in one 41 qt tub.
There they remained for 10 days, with only water in 75 degree room.
In the same tub, they were transported back to my area, where they remained in the same tub for 2 months! They were fed once every week in separate enclosures, at the "acceptable" temps, but not an 80 degree cool side, and a 90 degree hot spot.
They are now back with me, and must be thrilled to each have their own properly regulated tub! 3 of them have shed, have not fed them yet. They are all healthy and strong, and appear none the worse for the experience.
I am happy for me (and them) that this worked out. My 5, certainly seem to belie the notion they must be kept at 80 and 92 all the time. While I would not change my husbandry, it's good to know I wont have to stress out big time over the next blackout.
p.s. I am now the proud owner of a generator!

I too am glad the animals did not suffer!
One point of generators are most proportional t-stats will fail if they are not used with pure seine wave power. The only generator I know has a pure output is Honda. All the others ( to the best of my knowledge) have modified waves that may cause problems.
On offs are fine with modified however.

Yes the link is speaking of ups but it is true of generators as well.

Glad your guys made it out ok. I was without power for 2 weeks and was facing the same cold temps. My critters are smaller than yours so I put them in makeshift homes of plastic containers with holes and used hand warmers on the outside. Eventually I had my sister take them with her leopard geckos (not in one container of course!) to her boyfriend's apartment for awhile but they couldn't stay there indefinitely. We eventually got the generator running...just couldn't run it 24/7 because of the gas shortage. It was a scary experience.
