    No room for hides

I used to put shoe boxes then I bought some plastic bowls with holes cut in them but I use 28 qt tubs and I don't feel like there's enough room for the hides. All my snakes eat well and seem to be thriving. Am I doing wrong by not using hides.

Do you just keep your snakes in racks in tubs or are they in tanks or something? I would say if you're in a rack/tub situation, you can probably forego hides without much incident.

If you're keeping your critters in tanks or vivs, you may have to get creative about how to you do the layouts for your tanks because I personally feel like those set ups generally leave them too exposed for them to be comfortable and secure.

^Same. I keep my snakes in racks and only hatchlings get hides. Once they outgrow those they don't need them in racks (some people disagree and still use hides which is fine). When I kept mine in larger tubs or tanks I made sure that they had hides. A feeding snake is a happy snake, however, and if they're thriving then they're probably fine.

    Racks... no hides.

Tub's.... maybe a hide for hatchlings.

I have a few in QT now in tubs. Just a water dish. If they want to hide they go under the newspaper. I had that big 2500g Normal in a tub for 60 days with just a water dish Mile's. She just went in the main adult rack last week and is none worse for the wear.

That's what I was thinking I have most in tubs in a rack. But We started out with a normal in a glass enclosure, I put a hide in there but took it out when I use it for a breeding tank. It sure is hard to keep the humidity right in the glass tank even with a towel on top. I constantly have to mist it.

Throw some damp sphagm moss in there in a few places. It really keeps the humidity up and gives them something to rub against when they shed.

It's like $5 for a good sized bag at Lowe's. Don't get it at a pet shop.... they'll want like $15 for half the amount of the bag at Lowes.

I was gonna get some at Lowes but thought it might have bugs in it.

If you're worried bake it at 200F on a cookie sheet for an hour before you use it.

    Re: No room for hides

I got the sphagnum moss at Lowes its cheap like you said and it even says its safe for terrariums. I have it in all my tubs and display tank and it has the humidity just right as long as I mist it occasionally. I just put a good handful at home end and it works great. The snakes like to lye on it too. Thanks for the tip.
