    1,000,000th breeding question

Hey, I'm sure this has been answered before but I couldn't find what I'm looking for using the site search feature.

I'm breeding my ball pythons for the first time. I have a male pewter (700g) and male lesser (675g) and they don't seem to know what to do. I'm breeding them with two of my normal females and they are both about 2100g.

The females wagged their tails and scented the tub but I guess the males are too shy. Any suggestions on what I should do? I put them together for three days then remove them for four. Someone suggested that I keep them together for one full week. Uhhhhhhh.

    Suggestions? Thanks!

    M

Patience, patience and a little more patience. Sometimes it takes forever!
And are you really sure they are males?

Ill second patience. There is also the chance that they are locking when you arent looking. However, they might need a little more size too. Ive had late bloomer males that didnt show any interest until they were over 800g! Ugh.

    How OLD are the males?

Do you know how to pop them to verify that they're male? During that process you will have sperm plugs squirt out like toothpaste if they're sexually mature.

    Yup, toothpaste.

    eeeeeeeewwwwwww

OP: I have had some males seem uninterested, then a week or two later they start to lock up. Give it some time.

I couldn't get my albino to lock with our het albino at the beginning of the season. It was driving me crazy. I had them off and on for about a month and a half and I never caught anything! Not one lock, to my knowledge. Decided to throw my bumblebee male in there with the 2. Took him out 20 minutes later. Came back 1 hour later and I had a albino x het albino lock !

I know for sure that my female is a females and my males are males. I'll try throw in the lesser into the mix for 30 minutes tonight and hopefully that will spice some things up.

If the males are first timers, like any gawky teenage boy, it will take them a while to get the hang of what to do with a woman. Just be patient with them. Human guys hardly ever get it right the first time, so don't be surprised they have a little trouble too.

I asked about popping the males not to check the sex, but to check for sperm plugs. If he's not sexually mature he has no reason to get it on.
