Scared my BP doesnt realize there is water in her tank

    Hey,

I have a 4month old ball python she has a 30 gallon tank and an corner water dish. I worry because everyday i see her sitting in her cave and today i moved her to the other side to adjust something on the other side. I then noticed when i went to get her that she noticed the water and started drinking. I worry because i barely see her drink and fear she doesn't realize the water is there. I don't want her dehydrating or anything. I figure that she may do it at night or whatever, plus they can pick up moisture in the air so I'm sure she can find it ... but is there any chance i should change something or do something different? Currently the water is on the cool side just for the heads up.

That seems like a really large tank for a baby. I would try to make it as cluttered as possible. She may be afraid to roam around the tank because she does not feel secure. Also you should have two sung, identical hides- one on the cool side and one on the warm side, with the water bowl in between the hides so she doesn't have to go far to get to her water.

Is it a big deal if they are not identical, they are both the appropriate size but do they need to be identical? The middle water dish is a good point I shall definit;y try it thanks for the tip. I have a log things that she can slither under or over plus plants and extra hiding spots so no worries on the cluttered secure note

It is very rare to see them drink as it's not very often. It's a snake not a puppy. They don't need much water, don't worry.

If she's already drunk from it once, she knows it's there. Not noticing water bowls is supposedly a real danger with green tree pythons, but I think ball pythons can smell water.

I do catch mine drinking, and it's often right after I've replaced their old water with fresh water. They also drink right after they've been fed.

I didn't catch my girl drinking water for the first three months I had her! (Boyfriend got lucky and his drank pretty much as soon as he was put into his tub to destress.)

Also, identical hides are good because then you know they're not preferring the safety of one hide over the warmth/coolness of the other. If she seems to be switching between them and not just in one all the time, then you're probably okay. As long as they're both snug around her body, she's okay.

If it'll ease your mind, you can put another water dish on the warm side. Will help with humidity too if you're having issues with that

I like putting a dish right in the middle of the cool/hot gradients....They are also mostly nocturnal...so its possible your bp is slurping plenty once your asleep and just don't see it
