I was handling Sirius yesterday and noticed a wierd scale on his belly.
it's only a single one, and its there but for lack a of better work it looks like the clearcoat is gone from it. it's not shiny at all very dull, and dry looking.
is this some thing I should worry about? Im trying to bring the humidity up in his tank, is there any thing else I should do?

Could be a tiny bit left over from a previous shed? Could be an early sign of an impending shed? I'd just keep a close eye on it and make sure temps and humidity are spot on. Watch for it to spread or change color or peel away or any change that seems something other than normal healing or sloughing an old shed.

I think he may have an impending shed on the way. its been a month since his last shed, and he seems to be getting darker. he's been eating fine, and moves around frequently, so Im going to assume he is ok.

Is there a chance it could be a tick? There was a thread on here a little while back where someone thought the same thing--that it was a scale, but it turned out to be a tick. Nasty little boogers. Is the scale black or dark brown?

Yea that was my thread it was amazing how much that tick looked like a little scale. But if its on the belly on one of the ventral scales. If you shine a flashlight on the scale and its bright red or bright brown it could very well be a tick. I thought the same thing that its an impending shed. If you have any hides that are the half log kind sometimes they may carry a wayward tick. A picture of the scale would help since i know what to look for.
    Thanks,

    My next Snake?

it's not a tick. this is one of the big white ventral scales. the whole thing.
I think he def has a shed on the way. he has darkened up alot, and when I got him out of the tank real quick this morning his belly had darkened up.
I also think not being use to any thing in the tank with him, he has banged him self up a little. I know Ive seen him move the log in there then knock it over on him self.

well I found out today the wierd scale is do to the shed comming off that scale b4 the scale had fully developed. I was told if it happens to more of them it could be a sign the humidity is to high. Im guessing it was just a freek accident because the humidity in HER tank stays around 50%
