    lock-up related questions

here we go .. I have seen this same male in a "lock position" with one of my females for an entire day now .. however on closer inspections he doesn't have hemipenes inside of her .. he is just doing the "legs-up-and-down-thing" .. has anyone ever actually witnessed hemipenes inside a female when they lock-up? and also is it possible for them to mate a bit and then he leaves her and does the leg-dance-thing again? how long does the actual mating without "foreplay" last? also what are the signs that they have actually mated? any more advice here would be appreciated
    regards, Andrej

I guess I don't have much to say other than how do you know? Are you pulling them apart to look? When my snakes are locked I leave them be, I don't pick up or turn their tails so I guess I wouldn't know the answer to your question with 100% certainty. The way I see it, if they look like they are locked, they are probably doing it right.
