Het Clown Identification

Het clowns. Is it really recessive? I have a pair if proven pastel het clowns that look like any other pastel other than the male with the connected behind the head stripe. I know this has been talked about before I just can't stop thinking about it.

Here is a pair (yes they are the most obvious, to me anyways out of the clutches) the female is a 50% het and the male is a pastel 66% het. I would put money on both.

Not really

Here is a pair (yes they are the most obvious, to me anyways out of the clutches) the female is a 50% het and the male is a pastel 66% het. I would put money on both.

I'd put money on the top one for sure, the other is at an angle that makes it tough to see the markers but that top one is pretty much a given.

I'm not exactly sure as to what you're getting at... Questioning if the mutation is recessive, or if there are markers?

As far as the hets themselves, just like with any simple recessive *and Pieds also* there really isn't any solid method of identification aside from breeding and proving them out yourself AFAIC, or a trusted source. And unless I missed something they were confirmed as simple recessive.. If I misinterpreted your question/comment please elaborate.

You may find the pastel masks some of the traits I associate with het clowns as the pastel is both a color and pattern morph that affects the same areas as het clown.
They are simple recessive but there are subtle markers that you can pick up once you see a few in person.
I've found they have a 'color' in the (normal) hets that looks like the side color on a full clown; sort of a caramel tone. they also have lots and lots of hooks in their patterns and the neck stripe is involved in this.
Out of the 5 (normal) hets/ poss hets I have two of them show very reduced patterns. those two are 100% and 66% hets. The other three are all very similar although the male 100% het and the female sisters 50% het are from different breeders ( NGM & Sean Bradley).
IMO het clowns are easy to pick out once you've seen a few, and the border between simple recessive and co-dom is fairly blurry.

I'll get some pics of the girl I bought as a het Clown. She just ate tonight so it will be a couple of days. I would love to compare her to all the other Hets.
