    OI. - general vent.

This may not be the place for this...and if it isn't, then I am sorry!

I've been shopping around for a rack for probably a good three or four months now. I've shopped most big name suppliers, small local guys, and everyone in between. Why is it that when you're looking for something very specific, you can never truly find what you're looking for?

For example: I've been on the lookout for a 4 tub enclosed PVC rack system for my ball pythons (I've only got four so far...- 1.3) and eventually looking into upgrading my corn snake rack system too. I prefer Iris CB-70s over Sterilite 41qts and yet...I cannot find a 4+ tub CB-70 rack that's shippable for a decent price that doesn't take a year to ship (okay...maybe not a year...but at least a good 8-10 weeks). If it's over 3 tubs, it's P/U only or requires a very long lead time. Because I live in southern Texas and all the supplies are a good ways away, I can't just go pick it up. Sure, I can find a 4 tub 41qt rack...but never the CB-70s. Should I just settle and get a 41qt rack or get what I really want (the CB-70) and just compromise on the number of tubs?

I've been considering getting an RBI CB-70 3 tub rack for my girls and possibly a sweaterbox rack for my boys (that leaves me some space to expand or put smaller girls in there). Even though it's not what I REALLY want...it's doable, right?

Perhaps I'm being too picky...perhaps I'm just not being flexible enough.

Oh the frustrations of snake ownership!

Then again, there are many joys to this hobby too! For example: I'm very excited with my new girl I recently picked up. She's possibly gravid - she's been locking with a black pastel since October. I'm not great at palpating (I'm not sure what I'm feeling for), so I can only go off her behavior. Even though I'm trying to not pester her and let her settle in, I cannot help but hope and pray that she's actually gravid. I've got baby tubs and an incubator nearly complete just in case she does lay for me. I never thought I could get so excited about my potential first clutch. I'm already a nervous momma and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Now that this post sounds like an amazing blog entry...I'm going to hush. Thanks for letting me vent BP community <3

Building your own is fairly easy, or maybe having someone you know help. It would cost maybe $100 in supplies to build a melamine rack that will cost you $300-$400 to buy.

Try cserpents.com. Chris is very willing to do custom work, and shipping is reasonable.

I attempted my own build (the one I'm using now) and it's functional...but it is not the best. I also want the PVC racks because they are not heavy like malamine and won't warpor bend quite as much. I'm having trouble finding someone in my area to teach me how to properly pop ball pythons...let alone teach me how to properly build a rack.

I tried there...but he doesn't ship a 5 tub...which was what I wanted! So it's back to just the three tub. It's workable...just not exactly what I had in mind.

Pick up a newspaper and hire a local handy man to build what you want. Also if pvc is a must stop by some local sign shops. One of them should be able to help you get some. Seriously even paying someone to do the work and buying supplies it should be the same cost or lower than waiting on one to ship from a pro place. I just asked a welder on a quote to build mine out of aluminum frame work and PVC shelves. If the price is right that's the route I'm going.

I don't think that option is right for me at this time. Maybe when my collection is bigger or I need a lot of rack built at once. But for right now I just need one. With all the time and effort into getting someone else to build it, it'll be almost the same cost.
