    Warming up my escaped BP

    Hey all -

Last night Herman (age: 6 months) escaped and luckily I was able to find him this morning. Unfortunately, it was *cold* last night and poor Herms is freezing. I'm not sure how accurate it is, but his radar-gun body surface temp was reading 61 degrees and he was clearly not happy. I put him back on the warm side of his cage, but I wanted to make sure there wasn't anything else I could be doing (besides leave him alone to de-stress) to help him warm back up. Also, should I be extra-aware of any signs of RI? Is he 'safe' now in that he can regulate back to normal temps unassisted? If helpful, I have easy access to my herp vet and can go in today, I just didn't want to add any more stress if it wouldn't help. The poor little man is freezing.

Just make sure you resist the urge to warm him up faster. Let him transition slowly--drastic change will only be worse for him.

As far as the vet, I personally would give him some time to recover. Just keep an eye on him, and obviously if he gets dramatically worse, or develops signs of an RI, a vet visit would be in order.

I am glad you found him--it's so scary when they get out! I hope he's okay.

Thank you! Yes, he moved the "medium warm" section of his cage, so I won't move him from there. I guess if he's moving, that's a good sign? Ugh, I feel horrible. The poor lil man was so unhappy looking. He even opened his mouth as a bit of a 'warning' when I picked him up to move him back to his cage. He's never done that before, even when he was a baby.

Don't beat yourself up about it! Everyone has an escapee at some point. Just keep and eye on him, and give him some space. Good luck!!
