Help with feeding question - is this to big
Need some opinions on feeding size. My guy weighs 401 grams and when im trying to get him to eat rats. The problem is the pet store only sell small rats, there are no pups or weaned rats. So tonight I go in and they have some small rats so I eye ball and get the smallest. I go home and weigh him and it turns out he's 63g. So if my guy weighs 401, then 15% of that is at 60g so am I pushing it too much with a 63g rat? Should I forego it and just wait till he's bigger. Please give some opinions. Thanks.

63g rat should be fine. That's 15.7%, not going to be an issue for you guy

I would feed it, he will be fine getting that down. I don't weigh my rats, I just eyeball them to the widest part of the snake.

When my cinny was 104 grams, he took a 24g fuzzy easily so I'm sure your guy will be fine.

Re: Help with feeding question - is this to big
Thank you for all the responses. One more thing that might change it just a bit. I weighed my guy december 13 so I was thinking in about four days he should be at 400g. I was some how thinking that when I weighed him was 397g, however, when I checked my record on him a few minutes ago turns out he wasn't 397 but 370g. So now knowing this information do you think it's still fine to feed him a 63g rat or is this now to big?
Thanks so much for all yall's help. I'm new to balls and just don't want to do something that could cause some complications.

That's around 17%, still should be alright. If he's on a 5 day schedule, I'd probably add 1-2 days to it this time. If he's on a 7 day, should be no issue. That's just what I would do / what I did when I fed my piggie around 17-18%, gave her an extra day or two.

Anyone else willing to chime in? Zeus is 390 grams and the rat I picked up today (smallest one) was 63g so I'm just wanting to make sure this is ok to feed. thanks to everyone else who has inputed. Greatly appreciated, just trying to get a bigger census and what some other might do in this case. thanks again!

It's definitely okay. Like the poster above said, if you're worried about it, just allow him a few extra days to digest. When I fed my cinny that larger rat, I actually didn't give him any extra time between meals because I believe if your snake doesn't want to eat, he won't eat but my cinny is a little pig so he didn't miss a step the next feeding day even though he had a bigger one the time before. If your snake takes the rat, the only reason you should worry that it was too big is if he regurges. Otherwise he'll be fine.

I think it would be alright. It would be easier for me to say yes or no if I could see a picture of him and the rat next to him. If the rat looks about the same thickness or a little thicker it's perfectly fine.
