Eye Crust?

Okay, this is odd, I really don't know what to make of this, I might be overconcerned... but I thought I would get an opinion.

Becker is still quite small, but he's clean, mite free, eating well, friendly, growing fast, breathing normally, not producing any kind of mucus from anywhere, pooping etc totally normally, and has just finished a shed fine. However, whilst having a handle this morning, I noticed this... and this was a NIGHTMARE to photograph I can assure you but here:

It is only on that side, doesn't seem to be bothering him and doesn't seem sore... but... it wasn't there before.


So... what is it? Any ideas? Any suggestions on what I should do? Soak him? Put something on it?

My new ball python had eye crust after i soaked him for mites. After putting his head under water a white crust developed on the sides of his eyes which are probably mite eggs. I used a wet cotton swab and GENTLY removed it. That may work after a good soak, my ball pythons will submerge their head here and there while soaking so it may loosen up on its own.

Sorry to revive a dead thread but I have noticed this "eye crust" on my normal as well. She also seems fine, no mucus, no labored breathing, no defense reaction. We currently ARE battling a minor mite infestation (the P-A-M is ordered and on its way) and she has been soaking herself pretty much constantly for 2 days. Any thoughts?

Mites do like to hide in that area and it seems likely it would cause some irritation.

I'd hazard a guess it's part of the healing process like the scabs we get on small cuts and grazes.

but then, i dont think there is much you can do. just do the treatment for mites using PAM, and check each shed for eye caps to make sure these are not accumulating on the eye, but end up in the shed like they should.

in the picture i see some sort of injury below the eye, but then, its not your snake, and its from 2012. i guess you are talking about the white stuff directly around the eye?

Don't mess with the eye. Whatever is wrong will correct itself when it sheds.

Thank you everyone! No that picture wasn't from me. I just didn't want to make an entirely new thread when the topic was already here. I won't be messing with her eyes. Makes me shudder to think about it. :-)

UPDATE: The PAM worked. No surprise there. The eye crust has reduced a huge amount. Don't know if it was because of mites or not but she lost the eye crust and instantly entered deep blue. I thought she was about to shed months ago but nothing ever happened. Definitely in blue now.
