AP T8 Quick Question
Hi everyone!
I am looking into getting two more T8 cages from a breeder who is maybe a hour away from me. The cages do not have any heat but for two he said he would do 200 with the sliding glass doors. =) To me this is a steal of a deal. They are black and seem to be in great shape.
Right now I have a T10 that is white using a heat panel. I have no idea which panel it is though. =/ I bought it from someone who was getting out of reptiles and forgot to ask. I feel stupid but oh well. My question is about heating the new cages. I was looking at AP web site and they sell their flex watt for the cages at 35$. Anyone know what watt those are? Reptile basics has a UTH for 24.99 (11"x23"). Could that work instead? I thought about getting another heat panel but those are kinda pricey. I have a helix to regulate the heat. If I did two flex watt UTH for the new cages can I still have the panel hooked up to the helix or would I have to get another helix?
One of the T8 that I will be getting, I will be dividing into two parts, one for my albino boy and the other for my coming pied girl. So this one needs to get set up sooner then later.
I have yet to decide what I would be putting in the third cage but thought for the cost of a brand new AP cage shipped to me would be 200 plus heat so I don't want to pass this up.
I am trying to find the less expensive way of doing this as it is the holiday season. The white T10 that I currently have has the panel hooked into the helix at 89 degrees which gives me a hot spot of 92-93 and a cool spot of 78 in some spots, which my girl prefers right now. Do you think the cool spot is too low? She could be building as she was breeding in June to early September. She is also off fed even though I continue to offer every week.
Ideas?
Thanks
Nichole
PS Sorry if I rambled. My mind is everywhere tonight. I am preparing for finals and doing bills, which made me think of this.

The flexwatt that AP uses on the T8 is 2 feet of 11" 20 watt. I wouldn't recommend using an ultratherm UTH on a T8 they don't get hot enough to heat through the 1/2" thick PVC floor.
This is the equivalent of what Ap sells:

You cannot use flexwatt and a heat panel on the same thermostat. You can only use the same thermostat if the cages/heat sources/everything are identical in every way.

Re: AP T8 Quick Question
Which panels would you recommend then if I am dividing the cages? I would hate to have to get another helix. Are panels better then the flexwatt or the other way around?
I can also get a Boaphile 421D with flex watt installed along with a thermostat (Ranco) for 175. Is flex watt easy to move to the middle of the cage? This maybe a better buy. I am not sure which to do.
I just don't want to spend hundreds again especially around Christmas.
Thanks!

Check out Aaron's thread on setting up a T8 enclosure. It's very good and he shows you how to set it up with a divider so you can house two snakes.

I could be wrong but I don't think you can move flexwatt on a Boaphile.
The reality is that you are going to have to get another thermostat regardless as the T8 is shorter than the T10 is, and you will have to get smaller heat panels for a divider T8 (I would suggest the reptile basics 28 watt heat panel for a divided T8 and the 40 watt for a full T8)

Re: AP T8 Quick Question
Hmm. Darn. I was trying to think of a cheaper way to do this but no matter which way I go, it will cost me some hundreds. Well the one for 175 has a thermostat and the dimensions are equal to my current AP T10 cage. Why does it all have to be difficult?
Another question: I have a 35 qt tub that I was going to use. What size flex watt do I need? At least 1/4 or half the tub?

Re: AP T8 Quick Question
Also the breeder who is selling the two AP T8 has two T10s I can get instead! Yay! Another question, if I do panels and do two 20s in a divided one can that be hooked up to the same helix or not because they are lower watts?

you can move the flex watt on a boaphile, just to let you know. Hope you find something that works for your budget. i have decided to waith and go with proline because the material, apparently, does not have the same odor build up as other PVC cages like AP or Boaphile but i only have two snakes that are young so I have time to wait

Re: AP T8 Quick Question
Yeah I hope so. I am leaning towards getting the boaphile one for 175. It has the thermostat (Ranco). Cage looks really nice. It has marks on the glass but as long as I can see into it perfectly I am fine. I was thinking of moving the flex watt towards the middle of the cage then getting a divider. Heck, I could even take the panel out of current one and switch them around so the sliding doors has the flex watt instead of the one door one. I don't know yet.
I have a big normal girl at roughly 1950 grams. She is on food strike at the moment and has been since September I think. Not losing tons of weight but is slowly. Pain in the butt. =P Then I have a little albino who is almost 250 grams. After Christmas, I will have my pied girl who right now is at 150 grams with the breeder. Very excited!
I am going to try to figure out which set ups would be more beneficial to me. I love the idea of two AP T10 cages for 200, but then the heat and another thermostat will cost a lot.
Oh. Decisions...

A herpstat4 for example wouldn't allow for flex and rhp's going at once?
