Hi,
The blood trails are likely to have come from his junk when he was waving it all over the place. 
If you look you should be able to see a tiny white spur. The darker part is stuck shed which builds up on it I think.

It's multiple sheds that haven't come off the spur that have finally come off. The very small spur that's left that you can see in the pic is the normal spur. You can grab an older animal and actually pull them off with no issue. I bet if you lightly pulled on the other one it'd come off just the same. I'd say the blood smears are breeding behavior, not concerning the spur.

Oh cool, I actually learned today! Yea, I honestly didn't know that, always assumed those *were* the spurs.
I normally see a bit of blood during pairings but there was definitely more of it this time, I'm guessing just coincidence to freak me out lol.
Cool, I'll put them back together in the morning then I guess
